March 8, 12 noon @ Princeton Stadium
WHat do you think is gonna happen?
13-7 UVA wins

I don't think UVA or any other team this season has that kind of success on offense against Princeton. UVA has a suspect defense which could hurt them, plus we have to see how Ben's knee is. If he's not at full strength this is a dangerous game for Virginia.

Everyone has bad games. Hokins is the number 1 team in the country, has won 2 of the last 3 national titles and has the best player in lacrosse(3g,4a against Princeton). This is a UVA team that gave up 13 goals to Stony Brook. Also their best player is hurt. Regardless of how Princeton's defense played today they are going to be one of the top three defensive team at the end of they year. You put a pole on Carroll and Zac Goldberg(very underrated) on Bratton. Coco on Glading,Peyser on Reubeor. Hewitt will be a whole lot better against Virginia. Adam Ghittleman is still very shaky in my eyes. Kovler is a middie that can take over a game. A lot of people are going to sleep on Princeton and they shouldn't.

you forget that there are two brattons. Plus Princeton will have peter Lamaze to worry about on midfield. That makes 5 strong midfielders princeton has to worry about, plus garrett billings is just as good if not better than danny glaring right now. UVa has too many weapons for Princeton to handle with a goalie and two d poles. But if the Hoos have a fault, it is their D. This game will be very high scoring.
UVa 17-13

Brattons haven't showed they can take over a game. A pole on Lamade does serious damage. Look at his play in '05 than in '07. Princeton in the second half of that Hopkins game is what you should expect to see. Ghittleman does not impress me nor does this Cavalier defense. Princeton is not two poles deep also. Tierney develops his guys into some of the best poles around and if need be he could put Hirsh on Ben.
I see no possible way of this game going 17-13. Princeton,Hopkins and Duke are still the nations best defensive teams and Princeton's offense should only put up 10 no matter how weak that Virginia defense is.

UVa > Princeton 12-5.
Virginia's Adam Ghitelman had a great first half against the Cuse last Saturday. He just needs to play a full game at that same strength. The defense did okay. Face-off wins was not Virginia's game clearly so I expect them to practice it and get better at it as the season builds. The offense has proven again and again that they will not be outscored. They've produced major points. Ben Rubeor clearly isn't at 100% health yet but Danny Glading has been the major point on attack. I agree Virginia didn't impress me totally but they gave me a much better impression than Princeton did against Hopkins. If Alex Hewit doesn't get back on game he will give up double digit goals scored. The Princeton Defense did ok but Virginia has the offense to do major damage to them. I didn't count the face-offs so I don't know how they will match up against Virginia. I'm sorry but the Princeton offense was horrible. They need much improvement(I have the feeling much of it is due to the circle offense they ran). Princeton did play a much better second half but I don't think it's close to Virginia's play right now. That's why I gave Virginia a 12-5 win here.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head
All Hopkins recent accomplishments aside, the half-time score was 10-1. Princeton couldn't score and their defense didn't hold up. Now look at UVA's offense in comparison to Hopkins. Midfield- The Brattons, Brian Carroll and Peter Lamade vrs Rabil, Peyser, Kimmel, UVA's is only slightly worse, while on attack Rubeor for Huntley, Gladding for Boyle and Billings for Doneger, definitely close but I would give UVA the edge on that one so I do not expect UVA to have any problems scoring, As for on defense, granted Hopkins D is much stronger than UVA's, but 10 to 1? And theres no question if this game becomes a scoring race UVA will kill them. I'll say 14-6 UVA, with Rubeor having his first good day back, and UVA's top four midfielders (aforementioned) will all have a good day.

Ben had a great day from what I heard today. 4 goals out of the 24-5 win over VMI. Still not as good as his partner in crime, Danny Glading who had 3 goals and 6 assists.

Princetons probaly pretty embarassed from that Hopkins game, so im thinking they're going to play better against UVA. They have all the tools to beat UVA as well. Not to mention that Ghitelman only saved 43% against a very very very weak VMI team. I think Princeton could win this, but i doubt they do. Im sayin 12-9 UVA

I personally can not wait. I got the chance to watch some of the first half of the UVA/Syracuse game the other day, and I was impresed with the play of their young D and goalie. Hopefully Princeton will make it a game. Even if they don't I won't care I'm just pumped to actually be able to watch a college game on TV.

UVA 1-0, Goal by Billings off a bounce shot.
I must say the fight for the ball at midfield when Princeton lost possession was the worse case of poor gb fundamentals I have ever seen, I don't care if their top tier DI or not, get both hands on your stick and scoop through!
Edit - Rubeor makes it 2-0

rubeor just put it in
and princeton came right back by a goal from chris mcBride
2-2 now...jack McBride just scored
roycegracie47
03-08-2008, 11:18 AM
I'll keep an updated score running of the game for those w/out access here:
McBride scores for Princeton. 2-1
Check that the other McBride evens it up. 2-2
Edit -
Gladding ends Q1 to put UVA up 3-2
Q2 is underway, UVA is man down due to a slash early in the 2nd.
Engelke scores on the EMO, makes it 3-3
Barrow returns the favor almost as fast. UVA back up 4-3.
Tims get sent to the box for a second trip. Kovler evens it up for Princeton on the EMO, 4-4.
At about 3:30 left in Q2 there was a report of lighting but the Refs are keeping the game going.
Cavs net back to back goals in 7 seconds. 1st is Rubeor to Giannone. 2nd is by McDermott off the face off, came clean and uncontested for a fast break. UVA leads 6-4.
Kovler keeps Princeton in it. 6-5 at the Half.
Back from the half for Q3 (you can see what looks like standing water on the field). Shamel Bratton puts up UVA followed by Carroll for another fast goal. 2 goals in 22 seconds UVA leads 8-5
Gladding adds another as he draws a penalty. UVA now has 3 goals in 42 seconds. UVA leads 9-5.
Carroll adds yet another, 4 straight uncontested goals. Assist by Gladding. UVA is running away with it 10-5 if Princeton doesn't wake up (looks like Hewitt might get pulled).
Schneider finally answers for Princeton. 10-6
Haynie adds another for Princeton to make it 10-7.
Kovler gets the hat trick to pull Princeton within 2 points. 10-8
Lamade to Carroll for UVA almost immediately afterwards. 11-8 UVA back up by 3 to end the 3rd.
Q4 opens with Rubeor scoring on EMO earning himself a hat trick on the day. 12-8 UVA. Tims is now going back to the box for another Princeton EMO attempt.
Schneider scores another for Princeton, score is now 12-9.
Kovler nets his 4th to make it 12-10. There is 2:06 left as Princeton wins the Faceoff.
Game Over 12-10.

Hewitt's back up is being warmed up, not sure if he'll go in.

Hewitt and the Princeton defense need to get their heads out of their butts. Back to back double digit games is unacceptable for a Bill Tierney team. This is the first time since Ryan Boyle that Princeton has had an offense like this. If the defense would step up they would've had wins over Hopkins and Virginia. I think Mark Kovler is one of the more underrated players in the nation. Josh Lesko needs to turn his game around big time also. On Virginia's side Brian Carroll is the best shooter in the nation right now. Their attack is dangerous but that defense is whats going to kill them. I don't think they have a shot and Duke or Hopkins. Will Barrow is an animal though.

well 12-10 virginia but it really was a fight for the win. Even though UVA was ahead the whole time, they really had to earn this win, if princeton's offense was more dynamic i think you would have seen them on the winning end of this contest

-brian carroll is absolutely shooting out of his mind this year.
-i thought ghitelman played pretty well. he should be very solid in the future
-UVA's attack unit is IMO better than duke's
laxer6
03-08-2008, 03:38 PM
Navylax I agree with everything your saying but Virginias attack possibly being better than Dukes. Greer has turned into a good passer, Dino is Dino and Quinzani is just going off this season. After todays game I believe he has 16 goals. When your leading a team that has Greer in goals you're doing something right.

- weather was a huge factor in the 4th quarter they were playing in a pool
- got to say that bull dodge was amazing
- UVA middie depth is really good
- was wasnt hewit pulled? (I realize hes the best in the country but 2 goals and 07 second and then that huge run)
roycegracie47
03-08-2008, 04:08 PM
Hewitt wasn't pulled. They started warming up the backup, but ultimately he stayed in the game, aside from the 4 goal run, both goalies did a good job.
What stood out to me was there were certain thing in both halves for each team that hurt them.
In the first half UVA, although they scored fast, did a terrible job in the transition game. Princeton was able to get back most turnovers and keep the ball on offense and keep it close. Capitalizing on the EMO opportunities helped.
However Princeton came out flat at the start of the 2nd letting up those 4 goals. Had Schneider not gotten Princeton started again, UVA might have run away with it. I think they definitely learned their lesson from the JHU game in letting a lead grow, they just need to make sure they take the lead instead of drawing even. Princeton did not let them walk away with it and played right up until the final whistle. I would have preferred they won, but at least they played a good game overall.

I understand hewit wasn't pulled he let in 2 goals in 7 secs in the 2nd quarter and then another big run in the 3rd my teams goalie would have been pulled after that run but I see why the princeton coach wouldn't his goalie is one of the best playmakers on the team and best goalie in the country

Man I DVR'd the game and was very, very dissapointed with the coverage by ESPN. The camera man should be fired for their poor display of camera knowledge. As a photographer there are many different and wonderful tools that are available to us to protect the front of your camera lens from the elements. However the photographer choose not utilize any of these options, and couldn't even wipe the lens off after halftime. I couldn't see anything in the second half due to the amount of water on the lens. It was very upsetting that ESPN's first regular game was so poorly shot. I live in AZ and had a bunch of neighbors in my complex come talk to me about the game and were saying they didn't even watch it cause they couldn't see what was going on.
