Hey, I need drills for goalie. I need the most help on reflexes and reaction time (are those the same?). Well what would happen is I will think a ball is going one place but it actually goes somewhere else. This is on a flat turf field. What can I do to fix that? So any drills I could do, with a friend or alone would be tons of help.
Thanks

here's a drill my HS and college teammate suggested for one of the goalies I coach:

need: a wall, 3 balls (1 white, 1 yellow, 1 other color), someone to throw the balls to you.

how you do it: gear up and set up about 10 yds from the wall. have the thrower set up behind you. he starts by throwing the ball against the wall and you have to react to the "shot" as it rebounds toward you. focus on finding the ball early and stepping to the "shot".

as you get the hang of it, have your thrower mix it up using the 3 different colored balls. in addition to doing the drill as before, you have to call out the color of the ball as you make the save. this helps with finding the ball early.

another you can do anywhere with no equipment, just a ball...
stand facing your thrower about 5yds apart; turn around; on a signal (whistle , "now", whatever), he gently tosses the ball either high left/right, or hip-high left/right; goalie turns on the signal and has to catch the ball. this works on the same principle as above, and you can do the color thing as well. but it doesn't reinforce positioning/stepping...

I was going to say the exact same the drill, Its a great drill for quickness and reaction time. Make sure the goalie steps during it though, a lot of goalies like to get lazy while doing it.

Here's another drill I have done before:

You need some tennis balls, maybe a dozen
Just requires two people (goalie and shooter)
Take the head off of your goalie stick, and block shots coming in with just your shaft. It helps a lot with moving your hands to the ball and watching the ball all the way into the stick.

Hope that helps.
