I think we'll have yet again a World Cup Championship winning team. But I may be a little biased.
My mom is working with the woman running it in attempt to set up a vendor village type thing. She knows more about it. I will definitley be going though, whether or not the thing my mom is talking about happens. Not only to see the USA kickin butt but also to see a bunch of Aussie girls who I want to support (until the final game of course).
I went to U-19's and loved it so I'm super psyched for this one.
Edit: I'm pretty sure Lauri Kenis will be on the team. Along with her look to some of the former players from last time's team and recent college graduates who were All-American (especially the ones on the Developmental US team). I would not be surprised if girls like Rachel Becker are on it, etc. Should be intresting to see who the new crop of girls is.

i can't wait!!! i'm definitely going; it's going to be so fun. i'd put good money on the USA team. just because they seem like they've been dominate for a while...
i believe the ncaa's are in annapolis, too. i'm excited to see uva win again.

summer, what aussie girls you wanting to support? i know a few from over there. I reckon they will have a pretty strong side, from what i hear they are a fairly young side, so i think it will be yet again a US and Aus final. i think the US team will still have alot of the older girls in it, but hopefully they can pick a few recent college graduates.
laxstar.... cool that the NCAA's are in annapolis, but not excited for uva to win! go terps! but i also think Northwestern will take alot of people by suprise.

Go Terps myself :)
I want to support Jen Adams, Sonia Judd, Kate Capelle (spelling on her last name? She's a tall blond who played at VA Tech), Courtney Hobbs, and Tess McLeold (spelling on the last name?). I'm pretty sure Jen and Court will make it and I'm rooting for Sonia too. I'm not sure about Kate and I dont really know Tess (but she played at MD so why the heck not :) ) but I can hope they'll make it.

hey i know alot of those girls too, i have spent a bit of time in aus playin lax, so know alot of those aussies. Jen and court and sonia i think will all get in. i think you mean kate threadgold too? she is a tall blonde from virginia tech. her and tess might get in, i guess we will have to see! i got told that the aus team has 3 U19 players from 2003 still in the squad, apparently they are a strong chance to make it. that would be awesome for them.
Yeah, go terps!

hey,
hope im not butting in. yeah the aussie womens 2005 team should be loaded with talent. adams, hobbes, mcleod, judd and whoever else from UMD and the loyola girls Stacey Morlang (now ***. coach) and Jr. Talia Shacklock and one of my best mates Kate McHarg. There are also some fantastic younger players who i'd expect to play college soonish who are in contention...would be great to be at, i spent some time in Annapolis after the under 19's beautiful place i must say...its being played at the Naval Academy is it not?
If so i wonder if the players will have to sleep in the plebs dorms?

I'd forgotten about Shacklock. I dont recognize the others (Morland, Mcharg) but I'm sure they're plenty talented. I watched the AUS U-19 and they looked pretty good...actually they got smashed when I saw them play in the final but oh well.
I doubt they'd put them in the pleb dorms. Did you have to stay in Towson's dorms during U-19s? I'm surprised you were not in hotels. Although I guess it makes sense. Probably cheaper and provides the easiest access to playing fields.

oh yeah, i had forgotten about those aussies too. i think stacey morlang is another one who will get in. shes awesome! kate mcharg is a sophmore at loyola, she will do well this season i think. yeah it was a bit hard to see what the aus girls were like if you only saw the final, USA dominated that game hey. i was looking forward to a really close game. im real excited that the seniors is coming so soon, im real excited. what are these pleb dorms like?

i see the US training team was named a little while ago. any suprises to anybody? for me i reckon Kenis not making it was a bit strange. Good to see Acacia, Amy Appelt and Katie Chrest still in there, from what ive heard Chrest is doing really well. Apparently the Aus team was named not long ago, anybody know anything about that?

02-14-2005, 01:15 PM
I dont know anything about that but I can try emailing someone I know from AUS who plays lax for them. I'll let you know how that goes.
I was also really surprised Kenis didnt make the team because from what I hear she was one of the top college defenders in her days. I never personally remember seeing her play. Pretty much every previous World Cup member who is trying out has made the team (as far as I know) so they're either deserving or just on the 2005 team because of their prior experience. Hopefully they're deserving. I feel like this might be the last dream team. Ala the Olympic women's soccer team. All the oldies will be retired from international play I think...I mean it is 4 years away until the next one. By then the younger gals now should be stepping up.

are there plans to make lacrosse an olympic sport?

Try doing a search, I'm sure there is a topic on this somewhere.
A little summary though: lacrosse is not played on nearly enough continents/in enough countries to be taken into consideration for an Olympic sport.

Jen stopped coaching your team right? cos she moved to Denver... Is Sonia coaching you guys now?
Oh and i dont know how we will go finding out about the AUS national team, i reckon they would be trying to keep it pretty quiet, but it'd be good to know who made it! Yeah i fully agree that all previous WC players will be in, they are never going to look past them.
i cant believe how soon the WC is, its so cooL! i hope that there is big crowds!!

From lacrosse.org
Men’s lacrosse was an Olympic exhibition sport at the 1904 Games in St. Louis, the 1908 Games in London, the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, the 1932 Games in Los Angeles, and the 1948 Games in London. In 1984, an international exhibition series was held in conjunction with the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. An effort to include lacrosse exhibition at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, was unsuccessful.

That's too bad I would think lacrosse would be pretty good fit for the Olympics....On a side note couple of the local high school coaches are planning on taking an elite team to Maryland at the end of June for a tournament and catch some of the world games.....hopefully, I'll be able to make the squad.....it's should be a blast!

I heard Sonia Judd made AUS World Cup. UMD has it on their women's lacrosse page. That makes me assume they announced their final team.
Jen did coach Stars for a while but then moved to Denver and so now Sonia Judd, Lauri Kenis, and Tori Wellington have taken over.
Celtlax, are you speaking of the UMD Summer Kick-off Tournament? Stars is planning on doing that (obviously) so maybe we'll see you there!

Oh yeah, i read that about Sonia making the team. Same as Sarah Forbes, and Courtney Hobbs.
SumSum - it must be pretty cool being coached my all those girls, and Jen when she used to. They are all sick players!
UMD are going to have so many Alumni playing in this world cup!! It would be pretty strange for the Aussies who played there to play against their team mates hey.

One word. Amazing. Cathy Nelson-Reese started the Stars and she's fantabulous as well.
Whats new for UMD? They're populating rosters everywhere! England's team as well (Laura Warren) as AUS. I think them girls are used to it by now though. Most have played against each other before.

Well i could tell you the starting 16 for the Aus team, I know the captains and everything but it is all hush hush and its trying to be kept that way until the WC in 5 months!! I can tell you the rosters are stacked though with past current and future college players so it'll be a sweet team, although the US team looks like it could be amazing...I wonder who will play better...Amy Appelt or Jen Adams...I really hope Sarah Forbes comes out and shows all the younger guys she can still rule the field!!
She's amazing, but I may be biased cos she coached me for u19....

ahh so people in Aus know the team but its being kept on the down low. Thats fair enough i guess. i can imagine when the US pick their final 16 that will be kept pretty low profile aswell. But im taking it that Forbsie made the team then? it must be a pretty young side if you say Future college players are in the team. thats sweet. And as for the question of who will play better - Amy Appelt of Jen Adams.... they will both do awesome in their own ways. thats if Amy makes the last 16....

Yeh people in Aus know, well the ones who pay any attention do. Forbsie made the team, how can she not, I rank her number one in the Aus team for overall ability. Its a true mix up though, over half the team has played college and every player has world cup experience.
On another note did anyone see Sarah Aston play for Aus in 01? She was a monster, i heard colleges chased her but shes never wanted to go. Her and Forbes on the field together is just plain mean!
I can't wait to see the US line up to see if they are gonna keep with the experience or throw new blood in...either way i reckon it'll be the best world cup yet! :) Wish I could be there, just have to watch it on tv at home :(

England / Scotland & Wales all have seperate teams.
CSTV are covering the Final, I don't know if they're covering any other games.

Yep. You can buy t-shirts if you know who to get them from. I've got one myself and can try to get one for you or anyone else who wants them. They come in long-sleeved or short-sleeved and are grey with World Cup 2005 on the front and all the country's flags in stars on the back with World Cup Lacrosse written and stuff.

College Sports Television (CSTV) I believe is a subscription Sports Channel on Direct TV Ch610.
At least it is in the Baltimore area with Direct TV, I don't about other regions.
They showed the U19 World Championship Finals in 2003 Men's and Women's.
They also cover regular season games
Starting with a double header Princeton v Johns Hopkins (Women's then Men's)

i'm guessing the games will be on tv....definately CSTV cos the u19s 2003 were played on that channel. I know the womens semi finals and final of the 2001 womens world cup was put on sky sports too. That goes to the UK and New Zealand (maybe some other places?), i had a mate tape it and send me a copy. Not sure if it will get played on pay tv in Aus....MAYBE fox sports or espn? but thats if we're lucky!!
UKLaxfan: how do you know so much about baltimore tv'ing times if you are in stockport??

I went to watch the U19s in Towson 2003, and found out about CSTV.
I wish we could get it in the UK, lacrosse is a great sport but has no profile in the UK. Even in Stockport if you did a survey in the town centre, most people would have never heard of it.
What Jim Jennings has done getting the NLL All Star Game on NBC on Saturday, could be the best thing that happens to lacrosse this year. CNBC Europe were meant to be carrying the game as well, but it's not on their schedule.
The more lax on TV, the more people see it, the better for the game.

You can get the tshirts by emailing the Chair of the USLacrosse National Teams Committee, Chip Rogers. I asked him what he wanted to say to you all, and this is from his email:
"Thanks for supporting the USA team! Our tshirts come in long sleeve and short sleeve, grey and white, and sizes small to XXL. Short sleeves are $10 and longsleeves are $15. To place an order, send a check with a list of what tshirts you want with length, color, and size clearly marked on the paper to: PO Box 400853, Charlottesville, VA 22904. I'll send them out upon receipt of the check and the order."
I picked a couple up and they are awesome. I also understand that 100% of the money goes to the US National Team. Chip is very good at getting back to you so you will be able to wear the shirts during the season!
I've already got my tickets to the tournament. I am looking forward to what promises to be some good game. I might be biased :-) but I think the USA will have a pretty solid team!

hmm i think england could do well
so the final will be USA and either Aus or England....and thats hard to swallow being from aus! England will make at least 3rd.
1.USA
2.Aus/England
3.Aus/England
4.Canada
5.Japan
The next 5 could be interesting, Germany could do quite well, but I definitely see NZ being 10. Wales, Scotland, Czech Rep all depends on the day how the game goes...I think the US team is just too strong

i was just looking at the final roster for the US national team. Unfortunately none of the younger girls made the cut, they stuck wiith the experience i guess. I would have thought either Appelt of Chrest would have made it, i know Acacia has a bad kneee, but yeah thought they would include one young girl. This years AUSSIE squad is pretty hot, I wouldn't bank on USA to finish in 1st place. This squads in fine form and the youngest member is one of the hottest of the team. I'd be placing all my money on AUS to take out the cup with USA runner up. We'll soon see how they fair!
