You guys think this years Duke team can be like '06 Virginia?
lax-crazy
03-08-2008, 02:54 PM
that's exactly what I was thinking. It's still super early to tell, but with an offense like that, and a solid D, I don't know how they can't be like UVa '06.

Is the scoring diverse or is it 3 guys with the bulk of Dukes' points?
lax-crazy
03-08-2008, 03:05 PM
it's pretty well rounded, I mean crotty has a few goals, same with ross, quanzani has 5, Dino has 2-3 I don't remember greer has a few also, and whoever that 3rd middie is has 2. That first line is just going off. I really wanna go see Duke live sometime this year.

Catalino is running on the 1st line i believe. He is Grant's(UMD) older brother.

Wow, i didnt think it was going to be this big of a blowout. Duke is definitely the team to beat now with Hopkins losing. Dukes attack looked unstoppable today, and their midfield is playing great.

If you goto this link: http://photos.insidelacrosse.com/D1.php
And then click the Duke vs Loyola photos and on the 33rd photograph it shows Zack Greer with what I believe to be PP. Just something that caught my eye.
Duke's offense just seemed unbelievable and yes the thought of '06 Virginia came to mind but believe it or not I do not think another undefeated season will happen again in NCAA lacrosse due to the growth of the sport. If you look at the all the schools now like Hopkins, Syracuse, Virginia, and Maryland now losing to teams like Army, Hobart and so forth. I just think that there is a lot more talent now than before.

I agree, but this team is ozing with tallent, head, heart, and hustle. They have the players, they have the skill, and they have the chemistry. they just have to keep it up.

True, and I know that some will say that they have matured, but you do know they had like 90% of these same players last year and they lost several games.
But all in all they are without a doubt a really all around fantastic team.

duke is deffinatley looking like 06 Virginia, so far. Duke has a ballanced attack, good scoring from the midfield, solid D, in short, solid across the board. Last year the key to beating duke was to dominate the faceoff X, limit big scoring tears, face guard greer, find the right guy to cover danowski, and limit the running game. if you did all this right, you just had to hope that people like quinzani, lamade, ross, and crotty didnt play well. i predict that if their first midfield unit can keep up the good work, if ohara can keep being a groundball hog, if the d can keep the preasure on, and if dan loftus uses his experience and proves why he is one of (possibly the) best goalies in the country, duke will be unstopable this year. Two extra notes, if quinzani keeps playing like he plays, not only will duke be unstopable, but they will have head and shoulders the best attack in the country. must be a coaches worst nightmare having to stick your #3 pole on a kid that quick with as good a stick as he does. last note, if i were john danowski i would bump ryan mcfayden off the field for good. last year he was the #3 at close D, carrol graduates, mckee moves to close d, manley takes the #3 spot, which leaves mcfayden at a position that is hardley ever needed, subing in for nick ohara when he needs a breather. mcfayden plays for, what, 10 minutes and he draws two fouls, thats insane. against a team like Delaware that is very proficient with their EMO, mcfayden could really cost his team some goals.

I agree with a lot of that, Quinzani is having an insane season so far. He is almost at his point total from last year. Being the 3rd attackmen on a line with that much firepower really will open up lots of opportunities for him to score. He is doing a great job already with it. So now coaches how to worry about 3 attackmen scoring points, dishing assists, and not just two.
Also about two posts up saying duke lost several games, they lost 3. And blew away UVa twice, cornel once, hopkins once, and unc 3 times. That's amazing considering that schedual.
Also I think the tewaaraton will be an all out battle between Greer and danowski, not like they are really fighting for it or anything. (and maybe Glading in the shuffle.)

i wouldnt really call losing three games several. But you can definitely tell they matured.

he is doing ok so far, he had a big game against princeton, no game vs hofstra, and did ok vs albanny while the 3 I listed are just blowing up. greer and dino have 27 points or something, and glading is doing amazing.

Right now it looks like Greer, Danowski and Glading are in the top spots for Tewaarton. Glading has more points, but has also played one game more than Greer and Danowski

wow I didn't realize he had 30 points. Glading is turning it up which is nice to see.
And a good dark horse for the tewaarton that no one really knows about yet this year is brian carrol for UVA
he is shooting some thing like 67%
not sure on the number but I do know that he has the best shooting percentage in the nation with like 15 goals
