yeah I agree with u there how can they justify dropping a S/L team for a team that didnt win the granny in the ones. (although I think moreland need to go up, they have a great young squad and its the only way them guys will keep improving)
I know footscray lacked depth but our club, chaddy,MCC,caulfield, footscray all played S/L for years with squads that were a long way behind the top 4 sides.
dropping wont help, look at us. in 4 of last 5 grand finals but now are probably further away from going back 2 S/L than we have ever been.
it will be hard for the doggies to keep guys like plumb, nath pobega and Jimmy Lawerson they need to be playing state league to get any better or have any chance of making senior vic and aussie squads

AS you would have read on the above list. It is a recommendation of who plays where. I believe that the list is to be dicussed next week at the Club Conference and after that the teams will be locked into their respective divisions. I would assume that soon after that we will see the first draft of the fixtures for this year.

Interesting fixture, particularly for the top teams. 18 rounds, 8 teams. 14 rounds to play everyone twice, then 4 more games after that. Could really disadvantage a club on the fringe on either breaking into or holding their spot in the four....Hhmmmm!

Yeh agreed Lax-ette. You would think it would be benificial to get 10 teams up into S/L so that you can have 18 rounds. I can see that which ever team gets the wrong draw will miss out on the finals. If after 2 rounds you are sitting 4th, then in the next four games you play the other 3 top teams while the team in 5th plays the bottom 3 teams you are pretty much out before you even play the games. One loss could be enough to put you out of the finals or even just a few close games could put you out on percentage.
I wont be happy if it is my team that misses out because of an uneven fixture.

I hope it does go to a club vote at the weekend.
I agree with Skin, Moreland are talented but maybe teams should be required to win before promotion. However Eltham were promoted to State League in 1989 without playing in a Div 1 premiership, just had a consistent year. I played Footscray once in State League last year and were impressed by the kids they had. By dropping back to Div 1 are they now going to have guys like Luke Moore, Shirt Burner (Chris Myles) etc. going to come back and push others out. If anyone should drop down should it be Malvern, remind me what they have done over the last few years??
All should be forced to play State League first, then have a seconds in Div 1, if you can't do that you should not be allowed in S/L or Div 1. Clubs would soon get their butts into gear.
Remember the days where you could have a Div 1 match prior to a S/L match? They made for great fun, in the social rooms! However Kevin 07 (http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/binge-threat-to-clubs/2008/03/10/1204998346596.html) may be putting a stop to this.

also wondering if Round 1 games will all be played at the one venue this season?? happened in recent years- tho not 07 due to drought conditions. IMO works well- good opportunity for everyone to catchup after the break n adds a certain sense of occasion to the first round.
any thoughts?

By the sounds of that article Jay Jay I'd say they are aiming at the football codes which may be a bonus for the smaller sports. Some of the funds that are pushed into these footy codes might not be dished out to footabll and may be given to lesser known sports that do the right thing.
Fairy i agree would be a good way to start the season but to hard to organise with the short notice we get for the start of the season these days.

Not sure about this...I seem to think they lost to Surrey Park at the Albert Ground in the Grandfinal!

What is the difference between a grand final and a premiership? When you fart your whistle blows!

im guessing they are a bit different.. i mean, you win a grand final 'match' and you win the premiership 'Trophy and Flag'

Are you 2 for real. Grandfinal and premiership are exactly the same thing. the fact that some one uses a different word to another person is irrelevant.
What he is saying is that Eltham did play in a premiership before being promoted.

Latest gossip from this side of the bridge is footscray in state league with Greg Mollo to coach and that Moreland havent payed association and may be suspended only 2nd hand info on both points but 1st is from pretty reliable source.........

There was talk from JH at the club conference that some clubs were not financial and would be told that they are ineligible to start the season. There was also mention of individuals who owe money to lax vic for state teams ect not being eligible until the debt is paid.
JH did not indicate who or which teams they were.
Oh yeh but footscray was put back into S/L which would make an 18 week season. 9 teams S/L, 8 teams in each of the other divisions.

hmmmm unpaid fees again from the Moreland Lax club. Something thats occured regularly in the past. Good to see the frustration has kicked in at the VLA!

Swanky,
I believe one of your lads from Surrey may also fit into the 'unfinancial' category and is an unlikely starter. True? False?
Skin, I understand both of your predictions/rumors to be pretty close to the mark. I hope Footscray do stay in S/L - shame to see then drift from where they've gotten too.
Roy.

You would be correct Roy. Although he tells me it is going to be paid in time, but if it isn't he will not play until it is paid or an arrangement made and the all clear given by Lax Vic.
At the Club conference last Saturday they said that S/L will have 9 teams.
Eltham
Surrey
Willy
Mcc
Camb
Caul
Malv
Foot
Morl
Due to this the season will be 18 weeks to accomodate the bye's and the other divisions will have to play an un-even amount of rounds. Div 1,2 and 3 will all have 8 teams.
