alright, what do you guys think is the best mouth guard for goalies? im not looking for anything custom, just something that isnt too bulky that i can yell out of easily. i wanted a bottom protector, but theyre illegal.
also, would you suggest i get a new throat guard? right now i have that hard plastic cascade hangy down one that you tie on. on a cas clh2.
thank you in advanced.

the cheap $3 ones from Can. Tire or any hockey shop. Usually clear in color, then chop it down to like your front 6 teeth.

I got a cheap one that was clear at Walmart (i dont know if there are any were you live) but it was only like 57 cents so i got like 5 and i never am without one. There small and easy to talk with but now i have a shock doctor with a strap and its a little harder to talk with but more protective i guess. And i dosent fall on the ground. And use zip ties to keep that neck guard on. I use them and never have problems! If your wondering its like 2 dollars for a 100 bag. Good luck

I use the Shock Doctor gravity one (http://www.sportstop.com/product/SHCKGRAV8100A/Shock_Doctor_Gravity_Mouthguard.html), it sits on your bottom teeth, and it appears to have been designed as small as possible, yet it stays as an effective mouthguard compared to something like this: http://www.sportstop.com/product/ADAMSMOUTHGUARD/Mueller__Adams_Mouth_Guard_for_All_Sports.html
-oh, and it comes with a tie so that you can attach it on any part of the facemask

lower guards are illegal
edit: illegal in NCAA, and it cant be clear- NCAA
we play ncaa rules in out league, but honestly, i dont think the refs will care (or realize) its not illegal.
but the bottom protector is pushing it.
but i really want that.

the clear strapped ones you can get anywhere for less than a buck are the best. protection isn't as big a deal for most goalies, so something comfortable and easy to talk through is the best. as a result, i'd pass over the fancy and expensive shock doctor mouth guards and stick to the cheapest, thinnest one you can find, boil it up, and go to town.

the bottom ones are illegal in ncaa. the rule says that the mouthguard must cover all upper teeth.
i think they have to be a bright color also but i am not sure.

I use the fox 40 mouth guards. (http://www.fox40world.com/index.cfm?DSP=ProductDetail&startrow=1&CategoryID=45&SubCatID=0&ProductID=155&pagepath=Product_Gallery&id=4130) Just dip them in hot water and mold them around your teach. Real easy to talk out of and stays on your helmet.
As for the throat guard, I have my Brine one tied on with some strings onto my Triumph. Works well. I can look down with it and it does not interfere. All I do before games is just tighten the strings.

i used to use one of the more expensive shockdoctor ones, but personally, i prefer the little cheapo dollar ones that can be bought virtually everywhere. they can be molded and everything, so it works just as fine as more expensive ones, minus the extra gel stuff for protection though.
i'd love to try a gravity though, some of the kids on my team have them and they dont get called for it and speech is virtually the same as without a mouthpiece.
for goalies, i say go minimal protection, with maximum voice clarity. i guess you can try molding one of the cheapo ones and then trimming it up a bit, it'd only cost a buck, and you wont lose much if you dont like it or mess up, it's only a buck, buy another.

bottom MGs: legal in NFHS, illegal in NCAA
must be a visible color
Mouth guard
• NCAA: The mouth guard must cover all upper teeth (cannot be trimmed to cover only front teeth).
• NFHS: The mouth guard must cover either all upper teeth or all lower teeth (cannot be trimmed to cover only front teeth).
• The mouth guard must be worn inside the mouth (leaving it hanging from the facemask or simply biting on one or both corners does not serve the intended function of preventing concussions).
• The mouth guard must be: yellow or another highly visible color unless the head coach certifies that it must be clear for a medical reason (NCAA); a readily visible color other than white or clear (NFHS).
all in all, i think i might pick up the gravity, plus a few cheepos yur talking about, ill try them first, but then if those dont work, ill take my chances with the bottom MG
our rules in our league for highschool is a hybrid of NFHS and NCAA- ill have that be my argument since it is not written either way for guards
also, i can just say that half the other teams guards are clear (which they usually are)

as others have said, that rule was recently changed and they are now legal.

the ones that some ortho clinics give out are great. They are the ones that are super soft, and have a top/bottom piece. You can cut them in half so they are just top. they are really thin and soft. Best mouthgaurd ive ever used

I use those really cheap Adams ones, myself. Pretty easy to talk through and don't have any problems with it.

I am also a goalie and I currently use the Gravity. I is not bulky at all and it is very easy to talk with. I also use a cascade neck gaurd that is clear. It does not tie on, but it works well.

It might just be me, but even the new strapless one seems much more bulky than the older one. Then again, it might be the fact that it covers the full lower teeth compared to the older one that I have:
