I broke my thumb a few months back and did not let it heal correctly. I am most likely going to need surgery. Should i keep playing and get it taken care of down the road, or just get it done now? Has anyone else been in this situation, Also could you describe what your thumb looked like at the time. Right now the bottom part of my thumb is around 2-3 times larger then the other thumb.

i was in a pretty similar situation
i was shooting the shot and the d-slashed his stick right over my thumb-it wasn't broken but it felt like a jammed finger x3 and swole 2x the size of my other finger--
main thing i did was ice it every day to keep it from swelling
idk man if mine was broken i would want to keep playing, but i know its best to do the surgery and get prepped for when it heals.

I'm playing with a broken thumb right now. But I got cleared by my doctor first. I wear a splint under my glove, and then padded the outside of the thumb up.

I jammed a finger once really bad. I thought it was broken, but it was just jammed. With a popsicle stick and enough tape anything is possible.

I'm no goalie, but I broke my fifth metacarpal and didn't play until I was cleared by me doctor even though I wanted to play. My only advice to you is don't do something you could regret and injure it even worse. If you do play beef up that thumb a lot.

I am just going to ask this, its my 2nd year, now doing varsity, but like i just use a pair of super flies, should i get some sort of thumb protection? All i see is stuff about it, but i wear 12's, and my gloves are 13's. Just need advice. BTW. I broke my arm in wrestling, but when u sit out, and watch, makes u want to play so bad once u are ready to go. It will add twice as much dedication and hard work.

^^^ Relic, you probably want to at least wrap it up with tape and maybe some pvc pipe, or u could spend some cash on these http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_6224_front.phtml
to the main question, i think you should try and make it as far into the season as you can, but definitely pack it on the thumb if you are. How important is this season? if its your junior year, you might want to push it. But, whatever you do get some good gloves

ive done it before. Thumb got real swollen and tender, bone chip in the tip this year. The nail got drilled and drained and that relieved alot of the pain, but still hurts to write with a pen

i broke my thumb preseason 3 days ago, and im letting it heal correctly so i will not need surgery, like you will. just next time let it heal while you can, so no problems will be faced in the future.
my thumb was about double the size of teh other one, and it could not be moved.

this happened to me a year ago in indoor. I would just let your thumb heal if you are needed their is no reason to be out for any longer if you hurt it again.

Im the vars goalie and im a soph. I got superfreak goalies, with my thumb all beefed up, Im prety sure its working =D!
-Relic Davis- PLZZZ buy goalie gloves i cant even think of walking into the goal with out a pair, also when you buy the goalie gloves add more thumb protection with foam, pvc pipe, or tape.
