Custom Thumbs Tutorial

Ok to start off this is an easy to make thing and if yu dont like the way i do something just try it your own way.
First is your suplies youll need:
scissors
regular lax tape any color
hard cardboard such as middle of duck tape roll or platic that is flexible and can be cut
old gloves that can be cut and you will not need any more
and gloves that need a goalie thumb


1 collect thing you will need

2 cut cardboard into two strips of even size then to size of thumb or how you want it

3 cut open old glove the biggest area possible to get as mush material as you can (or you can get some thick dense foam and hard plastic instead)

4 you should now have card board thick foam and something hard all cut to same size they might need to be curved depending on the glove

5 stack them on top of each other with the hard plastic on top foam in the middle and and cardboard on bottom. Then tape it up into one piece

6 flex it and make sure its not to stiff if you dont get it right try agian. Tape it onto your glove. Remeber that you can make it as thick as you want and use the materials you want good luck. JOB WELL DONE!

what about pvc i know alot people use and its more protective than foam?

PVC is harder to fit perfectly to a glove, but gives a lot stronger protection. My only question is what about the top of the thumb, you just made the brace that locks the thumb from going backwards. I personally just took an old pair of goalie gloves i found for like 10 dollars ( i think monsoons) and cut the thumb off and taped it up and then coated it with epoxy then taped it with a thicker type of athletic tape, then taped it to my glove. Your idea sounds so much easier though

The last picture you cant see the bottom and you only tape it half way down your thumb so it still moves.

good tutorial, but I just bought pvc and melted it into shape (yes it works if you know what your doing) and taped over it. It worked perfectly and I didnt have to ruin a pair of gloves which I would hate to do. But yours does look very nice and neat and looks very protective. I must ask, though, why not get goalie i-pros when your team custom ordered their gloves?

I was just wondering what a composite thumbs i know that cslax or someone makes them.

best way 4 custom thumbs is get some pvc pipe pop it in the over till it gets soft mold it around ur glove (but form it with some space in-between the pipe and the glove almost like a turtle shell) then throw it in the freezer "almost as if ur baking a head" then get some of that spray foam stuff that u use around ur house and fill the inside of the pvc with it and then tape it onto ur gloves

the foam gives more cushion and u could get nailed in the thumb all day and not feel a thing

Im still just wondering what are composite thumbs i know cslax06 makes them im pretty sure?

foam all the way, a hard surface like pvc pipe isnt going to cushion the blow to your thumb when you think about it, you will still jam it atleast.
