I think a rule is both your hands have to be to the left of the ball.. what is the rule on where the crosse has to be?
So can i do this? line up ref says down and i have pretty much the middle of my shaft lined up with the ball, hands to the left of the ball, so when the wistle is blown i can just move my stick a few inches forward thereby stopping any sort of clamp...

From NCAA rule 4-3:
The official shall make certain that the reverse surfaces of the crosses match evenly; and each player must have both hands on the handle of his own crosse, touching the ground but not touching any strings of the crosse. The player’s feet may not touch his crosse. Both hands and both feet of each player must be to the left of the throat of his crosse. The handle can touch the center line but not cross it completely. The feet must be behind the line and not touching it. No portion of either crosse may touch, and each player must be positioned so that his entire body is to the left of the throat of his crosse. It is legal to lean over the center line.
So I don't think anyone will let you do it, since the first guy will have his head lined up with the ball. However, I can't find anything that specifically says the head must be lined up on the ball.

You quoted the old rules which state the cross may be touching the line. That is no longer true (NCAA).

True, but I only did that because the full text of the new rule is not yet available and because the new rule isn't relevant to his question as far as I can tell.
But, starting next year in NCAA lacrosse, the stick can't touch the line. We can only assume that the old faceoff rule will still apply in NFHS rules.
In 2005:
Federation: head of crosse up to, but not touching, the ball.
NCAA: head of crosse up to, but not touching, the 4" center line.

Let's quote the 2005 NFHS Rulebook.
NFHS 4-3.3: ...On a face-off, the crosses and ball should be within the 4-inch-wide center stripe or as close as the equipment (ball and crosses) will permit. The crosses shall rest on the ground along the center line and be placed parallel to each other, up to, but not touching, the ball.
NFHS 4-3.4: ...The handle of the crosse may touch the center line but not cross it completely.
As for NCAA rules, I'm clueless.
