My younger brother ran into some nasty trash while online....I was wondering if clearing the history menu on the browser gets everything. My dad is no slouch on the Mac, so I'm getting worried for my brother who is not web or computer savy...

yeah, clearing the history should take care of everything unless he has an alternative program installed that makes logs of everything visited.

what browser? If its safari you can just choose clear history. IE you can select the sites from the history list and just delete them so it doesnt look like you are tryin to hide somethin by deleting everything.

Even though I do look at the occasional pron, I clear history every 3-5 days just to keep it running smoothly.

I would also clear the cache as that EASILY leaves a huge trail of what you've been looking at.

On Windows machines, Microshaft captures a whole lot of sensitive information from your browsing and e-mailing habits (for Microsoft? the FBI? worse?). Don't know about Macs, but nothing would surprise me.
This stuff is cleverly hidden in a folder which even 99.99% of power users would never find. (First character in the folder's name is not recognized by Windoze, I had to access and trash this folder on my last machine's drive by slaving it to a Linux machine. I am now a user of alternate browsing technology).
Search a cryptography/security site like astalavista.com for further details.
