I REALLY hope UNC wins this game...
That should give duke something to work toward at the end of the season for the ACC tourney

yea this will be a very close game because of the long rivalry the two schools have, and because in IL's report on the game if everything goes according to plan Duke has the advantage on attack, NC on middies, NC on defense, and NC on face-offs, but most of NC's advantages are only by a small margin.

The ground ball battle will be very important for UNC. They need to keep the ball away from that Duke offense as much as possible. Whether Walterhoefer takes draws will also be a big factor. Without him, the Heel's are at a big disadvantage as over their last two games (in which he didn't play) UNC has been dominated at the X. The Tar Heels need to keep it close though, otherwise they will have no chance.
I predict Duke's offense will be too much for Grant Zimmerman and his D to handle. Duke wins. 15-10
Edit: I just skimmed the IL article, and I basically repeated everything it says...great minds think alike?

I just looked at lax.com... and i believe the score was duke up 15-6 during the third quarter. Duke, just relentless as usual this year.

ya we call it the mile fight. cause UNC is like 1mile from duke ( not literally a mile but you can get the point).

After this performance, short of UVA getting pretty lucky, I think that the only team capable of challenging Duke is Johns Hopkins.

Johns Hopkins will not be able to keep up with duke. If duke does not get cocky they have the ncaa won.

And I doubt Duke gets cocky. These fifth year seniors have lost to Hopkins twice in the National Championship in the years at Duke. This includes Danowski, McDevitt, O'Hara, Loftus and even the true senior Greer. This team will come to ever single game like it is their last that they will ever play, because I really do think they want it worse than anyone else.

because no matter what anyone else says DUKE is #1. i mean come on, Danowski, Greer, Loftus, O'Hara, Quinzani, Ross, and McDevitt? no one can match up to Duke this year.

I was at the game and it was a good game. UNC is good but the game was more one-sided than the score or stats indicate.
Loftus, in goal, played very well for Duke. UNC outshot Duke in the 1st period and the total shots were close to even for the game but Duke dominated. 5 of 8 UNC scores were on man-up situations. The Duke D was efficient on clears 21/22.
Shane Walterhoeffer did a good job for UNC at the X winning about 2/3's of the faceoffs but UNC's possession could not compete with efficiency of the Duke attack.
Going into the end of the 1st half score was 10-2 Duke but then Loftus let in a shot that he took on the face, or maybe neck i'm not sure. Shaken up Loftus was replaced by senior goalie Rob Schroeder. Schroeder got tagged by UNC just before the half ended and the score was 10-4 but it really wasn't that close. Duke ended it all with a 5 goal 3rd period and cleared the bench.
Duke again made it clear that they can score goals but I think many might be surprised at how well Loftus is playing in goal. He is really seeing the ball well and is definitely a calming presence on the defense. When a save is made the transition to offense was really quick and I think that is one of the reasons that their clearing is so efficient.
It is hard to do justice to how well the Duke attack is doing, even with Danowski on one wheel. When he gets into game shape, the attack might become really scary. When the play gets helter-skelter they become absolutely amazing.
On one play in the third period, I think, Greer picked a loose ball at the top left of the UNC goal. He scooped the ball and did a quick behind the back pass to Danowski who was running alongside him in the center. The pass was a little far in front of Danowski but he made a one-hand grab and in a single motion made a second behind the back pass to Quinzani who was closing uncovered on the right side of the crease... Lo, high, lo... goal.
It was a circus... You have to cover Greer and Danowski tight but then Quinzani scores 6 goals, Greer 5, while Danowski runs the show and only gets 2 and I don't remember if they played in the 4th period.
The Duke attack gets a lot of attention, and it should, but I think people are soon going to realize that Loftus has become a really good goalie too.
UNC just ran into a buzzsaw on Saturday. When Duke is hitting on all cylinders they are just going to be really tough to outscore.
It was a terrific game to watch as long as you weren't a UNC fan.

I admit that Duke is probably the better and more experience team this season than anyone else, but UNC did play very sloppily. We got possession and just threw a bad pass and lost it multiple times. The goalie would run out of the goal and Duke would end up scoring on an empty net. There were a lot of shots that weren't even on goal. I think that if we could have gotten more shots on goal that this game might have been a little different. Zimmerman didn't do as well in this game as he did in previous games.
Duke's clearing game is phenomenal and so is their unsettled play. That double behind the back play was amazing. Loftus played exceptionally.
The Blue Devils are going to win the national championship. They've improved since last year. I can't say the same for Hopkins. Schwartzman won it all for them last year in my opinion.

Just saw the highlights the IL has up in their video section. That double behind the back passes by Greer and Danowski was amazing! Duke's offense is just clicking on every cylinder.
