I'm brand new to both lacrosse and being a goalie. So, if my question sounds stupid, I'm sorry.

What is the difference between a shallow pocket and a deep pocket?

a shallow pocket will have a higher chance of rebounding the shot, but its what ever works better for you though

shallow pocket higher rebound chance if you dont control your stick but increased clearing length

Deeper pocket less rebounds shorter clearing length

If you can control your rebounds then you can do fine with the shallow pocket but for i begginer i would suggest a deeper pocket

So a shallow pocket has no space and has rebound and a deep pocket has a deep space were the ball goes ask someone on your team

shallow
Pro's
-very easy to clear with
-little to no maintenence
-good for foul weather
Con's
-rebounds (ball popping out after a shot)
-very little hold (ball rolls around in pocket)

deep aka "bag"
Pro's
-little to no rebound
-lots of hold
Con's
-getting it properly strung
-maintence (shooting strings, pocket depth, etc)
-clearing
-not very good in the rain

its usually best to find some middle ground between the two that works best for you. a pocket that isn't too deep, but still allows you to make good clears and has enough hold in case you ever have to leave the cage.

yea for a newer guy i would get a smaller pocket, bags are fun but imo you have to be more expierenced to realy use one properly.

I forgot to mention that the team I'm on is brand new and the most game experience that the "veterans" have is 1 year.
