I am fairly new to goalie, this is my first actually season. But, i played in the winter season. Anyway, i realized that saving bounce shots are a lot easier in winter season because it bounces fairly the same in most cases. So, when we had our first practice a few nights ago, all the bounce shots were going in. I also had some trouble on far away shots.
So, i was wondering what are some general rules that you follow when someone is shooting close (outdoors), and when someone is shooting far away (outdoors). Also, i would like some "moves" not to do. It would be also nice if people could give specific situations in which you bend the rules.
Thanks!

generally when a shot is coming from farther away, the shot will go high. most middies have problems with shooting bounce-shots from so far away, and keep speed on the ball.
when a man is up close, say for example on a one-on-one, he will most likely fake high and shoot low, while others will simply shoot high. just make sure on one-on-ones, that you are matching stick heads with him, and steping out at him, not only to pressure him, but to decrease his visability of the goal.
its alot about experience, and playing smart. you will realize the little "tricks" that attackmen and middies do, so you have to know whats coming, and trust your defense(if you can) to come up with slide packages.

When there is a bounce shot that is inside the crease attack it before it bounce makes it alot easier for example is you let it bonce it is harder to judge were the ball will go. On far away shots people are just trying to rip it as hard as they can but watch out for those good kids that snipe corners!

I have found that a lot of skilled attackmen will do a move called the "dip and dunk", where they will fake low and put it right over you. Also, they try to shoot off stickside high, but basically, just try and stay big on close shots.
On far away shots, you have to get out there. Shots exceeding 12 yards should be relatively easy to save, since shots can't keep that much speed on it unless the guy has an absolute cannon.
