I started playing Lax in the beginning of summer. Tryouts are end of Janurary. I know I still have a long ways to go before I catch up the the other people trying out, but I have been weight training everyday, running everyday, practiciing every day dor an hour or two, and have introduced myself to the coach. I reall want to make the team. I am trying out for JV. Does any one know anything they would do that coaches really like too see at tryouts? Thanks.

First of all, lifting weights everyday doesn't do anything. Lift weights like every other day or every three days. Your muscles need time to recover.

No, lifting everyday is good. Just work different muscle groups and give yourself a break every 4 days or so.

Yeah, one day is upper body, next day is legs, and so on. Thanks you guys.

u dont need to be the best lacrosse player out there just to make the team... so dont stress about how good u are.... if most coaches are anything like mine, they look for kids who hustle and play their hardest, with a good attitude... as opposed to a really good player who doesnt even try and has a crappy attitude
im not saying that u go in there with no skills whatsoever... but dont stress too much and get nervous... if u dont make the team then u kno what u have to do for next year

my coach says if your kinda new to the sport (can't throw and catch too well), but you show that you hustle, on and off the field, riding, fast/slow breaks, then he would be able to find a spot on the team for you.
and just play alot of wall ball

If you're not the best player it's all about hustle and having a good attitude, so basically what everyone else said. Good luck man, Lassiter is awesome.

Im in 9th too. whats ur name
Since you're in 9th grade, you're probably not going to be the only kid that hasn't played before.

does your team have a freshman/aka 9th grade team? because if they do then get realistical (is that a word?) and just play on the freshman team! and depending on your area...which i assume georgia's quality of HS lacrosse isnt very good compared to the northeast...yeah, there wont be a lot of incredible, experienced laxers so you have a shot.

You've obviously never seen a Georgia team play. Just because it's the south doesn't mean we're no good, it's just only big in certain areas. There's some really good lax down here, you just dont hear about it because the college ball isn't very good.

just have confidence in your self like the little engine that cold :loser: :chuckle: just say to yourself that you can catch anything you can pass to any one and that you are fast.

Actually dude youd be surprised. yes northeastern lax is typically better, but when an all star team went up to play up in a tourney in Balitmore that had like new york allstar teams and stuff. The ga team won most of the games.
My trick is only show up to have of the tryouts. That's how I made team Utah. Seriously, I decided to go to a clinic with Josh Simms or Sims or whatever and Trevor Tierney. I went to the first tryout and listened to what the coaches had to say (I've never played a regular season practice or game of defense. Yep. And here I am.) and applied it, and I guess they were impressed. Seriously, here's the link to the roster: (I play for Viewmont. And they spelled my last name incorrectly.) www.utahlax.org is the site. Look around. There is no link, because it's a crappy site. I don't give out my last name, but if it's out there, you're welcome to find it.

dont worry about your skill level too much, thiers only so much you can learn in that much time. As everyone else said, hustle and show your athleticism. (sp?)
You take a kid thats solid but has played before, and you that hasnt played much but you have the athleticism, then they'll take you.
Sometimes picking players for the team is more about picking players that have the potential.

Lassiter High School Has one of the best programs ever known to Georgia Lacrosse let alone the best team working players ive ever played and fought against. I say theres a less than 45% chance you make the team. Did you play in the summer cuz i think i remember you. my teamate jayson algood was pissed cuz you never did anything you just caught the ball and passed it. but i would be scared of a 6 foot 250 pound giant too.

I think you need to downsize that signature bud. Unless you want your ability to edit your sig and profile taken away. I would know.

Now, now boyz...Play nice. I'm sure you Georgia peaches have some real nice lacrosse programs going on. Maybe we will see you in June in Baltimore for LaxMax? That is where the Best of the Best settle things on the field.
As for my school, well at the middle school you might get 5 or 6 kids that never played before and 1 or 2 might make the 9th grade team but most guys have been playing since pre-school or kindergarten. I started late, 2nd grade and had a lot of catching up to do. I did. I is cut-throat in the northeast

just try hard and you'll be golden

hey down here in texas, we've got like a whole bunch of underclassmen trying out. some of the upper classmen are pretty awesome, and so are the sophmores. most of the newbies suck though.
some advice i'd give you though, is just to go hit the wall EVERY day. just stay at the wall for like 45 minutes to an hour, working left hand and then right. you could do some running passing drills by running along side the wall and passing and catching. if you need to get faster to play also, i suggest you hit the track and do some sprints ever day. just practice hard, hit the wall, and bring a good attitude to tryouts and you should do fine.
