How many of you wear shin pads? I do personally. mine do not restrict movement, and it protects. What do you guys think about them? Please no flaming...

I wear a McDavid mini pad on my right shin because I had some pretty bad shin problems in my right leg and don't want to re-injure it. I'll take a pic of it on my leg and post it. It's pretty small.

On those cold morning practices, when sweats are needed, usually i'll wear them, just for the ease of pain.

I dont see a problem with wearing them at all.

Ok, in my experience, shin pads are not a matter of whether they restrict movement, but are rather an issue because it shows that you
"can't take it". I personally don't wear them, because you won't get hit there if you get your stick down first. if you're starting out, feel free to wear them, but you won't see anyone in high school or up wearing them. If you've got really bad bruises from a previous game, wear like a soccer shin pad on only that leg, that way they'll know you are hurt, not scared. I have, however, known a couple good goalies that wear pads, so its your call as to whether being made fun of or getting nailed hurts more.

Wear what you want, and don't let anyone tell you you "can't take it." By stepping in the cage you are already showing you can take it. I have no issue with goalies putting on shin pads, and when I've got a particularly bruised up shin, I'll throw on a McDavid hexpad myself.

Just pointing this out, he's wearing that shin guard because he used to never wear shinguards. Eventually, his shins got really messed up because of that and now he has to wear them.

As for me, I rarely wear them, but I sometimes do. Mostly just when I've got a few bruises there and would have a hard time playing through the pain if I got another shot there. For the most part, though, Nor*Cal is right. The vast majority of high school and above keepers won't be using shin guards, altough there are always exceptions.

I wear them for practices just because i am new to lacrosse since being in highschool, so and take nothing but low shots.

Florida high school girls are required to use them... you can't play if you don't.

I only wear the mcdavid ones... they're smaller than soccer ones...

I have nerve loss and deep tissue bruise on the same spot in the same leg, so even if i didn't have to wear them, I would wear one on that leg that has serious issues.

They have nothing to do with showing your "pain tolerance" or that you can't take it"

I'm a girl goalie, but I can play just as well as the boys. :)

Well, while that may be the case, and I'm guilty of it as well, only wearing them when I have an injury, I will admit that it's faulty logic. Hell, Quint Kessenich never wore a chest protector in college, and when I first started, throat protectors were not used by everyone either. Pretty brave, and you could argue the likelihood that Quint would get hurt was low because his skill level was so high, but I certainly wouldn't do it.

Yes, the vast majority don't, but that shouldn't mean much unless peer pressure/conformity is your only consideration. All you need to know is that some do, so feel free to do what makes you comfortable. My $0.02.

im a sr in high school. i wear them. i dont care wht people think of me, i only care of how i preform. thats what matters. i have UA ones, and iv taken some just above them thats made me sit out a practice. it is not worth a broken shin, deep bruising, etc. i have been playing for three years, and people say i should be able to get my sick down first. but as goalies we all know thats not always easy, if were screened you cant always, and if you do, the ball can still miss your stick

so imo, wear them, they will make you better. and give you a boost of confidence.

also, wht are mcdavids?

The McDavid's are what Collucini is wearing in pic #3 in my earlier thread. It's the McDavid Hexpad shin/elbow/knee pad:
