Lots of my friends on attack cut the palms out of their gloves so they can have a better feel on their shaft. When I play with their gloves in goal (just fooling around) it feels a lot more natural. Do you guys see any disadvantages to cutting the palms from goalie gloves?

Besides the fact that it's illegal?

if you play in an open men's league, then it's personal preference. if you're in HS or college, then your team will be p.o.'d when you get a penalty for illegal equipment.

No. It is still illegal you may have just not run into a referee who enforces the rule. Most likely you are using NFHS rules with a few modifications. I suggest you don't do it.

i'll bet you are wrong. you either play under NFHS or NCAA rules, and its illegal in both of them.
its illegal for the 5-8th graders ive coached. check with the ref before you get hurt or get a penalty

Get hurt, spenny?
If you do it right, you won't get hurt, but alas too many dumb kids didn't do it right and have broken fingers because of it.
I have done it to several pairs of gloves. I feel it gives me better control. But i am in a box leagues( were it is legal) and summer field leagues where it is also legal.
Although when you play in the rain, it's snowing, early morning, or just damn cold outside, you'll wish you hadn't.

What about the gait gloves with the palms cut out though...

They are made for box.
Even though Gait says they're field legal. I wouldn't buy them for field. jJust incase you get a ref that will actually call insignificant things like that.

fingers outside gloves can be easily broken.

thanks guys, i was confused, cuz my friends all have those gait ones, and one time a ref asked them about the gloves, and my friend just said "their made this way" and the ref let him be 0_0

mens leagues are great... no shoulder pads. mouth pieces etc....
thats how our summer league worked in DC
with my new brine helmet i didnt ever have to buckle it up
but hes right in HS or college you have to have palms in your gloves
