hmm.. this is a good question,
-if the opposing team has the ball and looks like there's gonna be a shot, yell "SHOT!" ==making your defense know that they need to slide/check sticks
-Make sure you yell/ tell your defenders who's hot/cold
-I like to tell my defenders where threats are, meaning, if there is an attackman wide open about 5 yards from the crease, I just yell there position.
-"STICKS UP!" I make sure my defenders have there sticks up at all times, if a defender has there stick on the ground and not going for a ground ball, then there is no need for him to be on the field, defense sticks aren't that heavy. The point of having your stick up is to intercept incoming passes/get ready for checks.
-I tell them what check to use; like... "LIFT!" "POKE!" "CHECK STICK!"

That's about it, my defense knows how I play and I know how they play, that is a very important thing to know-if you don't know how your defense plays and they don't know how you play then, it will be difficult.

- say where the ball is. Like if its at X, or top right, top left. etc.

that's all I can think of, Lacrosse4Life pretty much covered it

and remember that communicating and talking to your defense is every bit as important between live plays as it is during live play...faceoffs, time outs, half time and quarter breaks, injury time outs...any time you can get a second to communicate you should use it to your advantage...communication is a defenses best friend.
