use the search button for starters... you will be amazed at what has been covered already... read, then ask questions if you still have them.

second, post in the right forum... there is one dedicated entirely to goalies

watch a lot of goalies play, then try out what you see. Pick the form or style that you like the best or that works the best for you. And play to your strengths.

Here's a few things that will help you improve quickly:

Learn your arc and angles right away. There's lots of good posts here about that. Good angles leave less goal for people to shoot at. This is one tip where all you have to do is "stand there!" Have a friend stand in the goal with your stick. You take an attack stick and move around with the ball. Stop at a spot and tell your friend where to stand so they have the best angle to stop the ball if you actually shot. Put your stick down and go stand in the crease where they are. Have your friend go out to where you put your stick. Do this many times to get the hang of where you should be based on where the ball is.

LOTS of wall ball with the balls coming back no higher than your knees. See how close/how fast you can get. Start with an attack stick, then your goalie stick. Try to step toward the ball every time it comes off the wall. Always play wall ball whenever, wherever you can. Up close and quick builds eye/hand eye/foot coordination. Until you get good at it you'll do a lot of running too :-)

Ask a good shooter to work with you in net. Use a tennis ball. No stick. Work on stopping everything with your body. Start at the feet, move up to the knees, hips, chest, hands arms, head. You concentrate on positioning and quick hands and feet, keeping your eyes open and moving towards the ball. Your friend should start back a few feet inside the restraining moving side to side and gradually closer in. Finish up by protecting the pipe with your feet and your head in a game of pepper.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll get lots more help here.
