Hey there lax players. I was just wondering about the athletic requirements to get into college lacrosse. Ive been playing for 1 and a half years in high school. I fell love with lacrosse the very first time ive played. I dont want lacrosse to end after highschool. The thing is that i dont think i have enough time to build up my skills to college level. Also i have asthma... I cant run long distance and i play middie lol. i guess i can say im kind of at an advantage since my dominant hand is lefty. I can sprint for awhile... but then im breathing hard after. I just need a couple of answers from you guys to see if i should keep trying or stop.

in college your either an offensive middie or defensive middie, theres rarely a 2 way middie anymore, so if your having trouble with the stick skills then just focus on defense and the stick work will get to you over time and you can transition into offense. Every coach likes a good short stick d-middie

thats what I'm trying to do, I only played 1 year of lax so far and I'm going to meet with two D-1 coaches about playin there as a D middie, you just gotta hit the wall as much as you can and shoot as much as you can, practice running full sprint and passing and shooting, that was the hardest thing to get down for me. You just gotta show these coaches that you want it and you have heart.

youre definately looking at a faster game in college than what youre used to in high school. it'll be tough, but if you work hard you might be able to overcome your asthma. Just hit the wall as much as possible, and explain to coaches you really want to play. You might try redshirting your freshmen year, and you might sit alot and you might not get a scholarship, but eventually, with enough work you'll get your chance on the field.

many players have accelled at the college and pro levels in all sports with asthma (see Jerome Bettis)

i'd say dont try to specialize now. work on both your skills, offensive and defensive. then let the coaches choose what to do with you. you might also want to look at attack. where coaches always need a good lefty for that right side of the offense... and like gator said, look into MCLA... that's where i'm going.

We already have a great lefty attack. Playing attack is more confusing to me than playing middie

Not just MCLA, but there are plenty of rising D3 programs that would be happy to have a player like you. Explain your situation to your potential coaches, and hit the wall whenever possible.

never let the asthma stop you from playing your best
i played on a tournement team with a kid that had type 2 diabetes and he was one of the best players out there, he never quit and never gave up during games.
and to get better just play wall ball for as long as possible, bring your stick everywhere you go (cept on dates) that might be a little weird
and just play as much as possible.
alot of people wondered how i got my stick skills with a d-pole beter then or as good as the best middies in my town, all i did was play hours and hours and hours of wall ball when ever i could before practice after practice, no matter what the conditions are just play

Yea, many do recruit to get you out there. Some of the private schools treat lacrosse like a Division 1 sport and give out scholarships (A good example is Lindenwood), but that is because they are private...
