Hey guys- i can't figure it out... was that guy in all the brine ads last year(Cole Thompson) a real lacrosse player or a made up ad campaign?

Fake as a... fake thing. Brine just used it as a clever advertising scheme. Which tricked even me, the smartest person in the universe.

He was real I believe. He was a stand out HS player and I think he goes to UVA.

from e-lacrosse:

Cole Thompson \ n. \ a fictitious character in Brine ads and E-Lacrosse stories in 2003. See Picture 27.

but his full story is here: http://www.e-lacrosse.com/2003/spotlight/cole.html

what the hell. ehy would you make up some fake lacrosse player as a marketing scheme. Thats Stupid. It obviously didn't work because it didn'y make me buy brine stuff.

Yes, but some of us did. I bought Brine stuff. But it had nothing to do with Cole Thompson.

well- yeah i checked up on it- he IS fake- but that e-lacrosse article threw me off big time and ya know what? in all the pictures in the article that kryptic wrote the hyperlink to, you can't see his face - and i DON'T think the pictures have the same guy in 'em! in the one with coach desko- from the back "cole" looks like a 40 year old man. but those ads kinda evoked a sense of work ethic and a need to strive to make it to the college level, for me at least. i was actually a bit bummed to find out that he was just a carefully planned out ad campaign

and don't forget to thank E-Lacrosse for perpetuating a load of BS...
I think after this whole incident I learned that everything E-lax writes as stories should be considered a load of BS...
Their Stick Tech sections are the only thing to keep them alive...

yeh i was fooled back in the day but some of the stuff seemed fake, like elacrosse said he threw a shot through two nets... broke both of them at the same time...i doubt it unless they were like .5 thick each

Whether Brine has stupid marketing techniques or not, they're the best company IMO. Warrior lost some respect for me after I found out first hand how crappy their shafts are. But that's a whole other story.

don't you mean the nets made out of 2 pieces of paper?? :chuckle:

pretty much ANY BODY who starts off at lacrosse has a WEAK shot, i mean WEAK. almost no matter what too!! my friend is a HUGE guy and he picked up a lacrosse stick and can barely make a shot without missing the net. he just started a month or two ago.

a college player cannot be sponsored or he is kicked out of the NCAA sports program. a TEAM can be sponsored but no single player

yeah. you're not allowed to profit off a college player one bit. even the college he plays for selling his jersey with his name on it is strictly forbidden (but obviously just selling his number without his name is). the point of college sports is that they're amateurs. they cant receive money or be profited off of at all.

no in hs he was endorsed by brine...maybe not for free...but endorsed...he only used brine....he might have had to pay small amounts, but he still was stricktly brine

Is it even possible to throw the ball so hard, it breaks through the net without slowing down?

No it wasn't...and wouldn't Starsia know, not Desko?
Drew was From Northport HS...He went to UVA, and so did his brotherRyan who played Goal...so there were a couple Thompsons at UVA recently
UVA press release Nov 2002 already said UVA signed Drew...
Cole fictitious article appeared in May 2003 saying he decided where to go...
Images of "cole" on e-lax were not of drew...
