I'm a girls goalie and today we had a game. I was wondering about a call that was made. A girl was trying to roll the crease so I came to the edge of the crease and put my stick in front of her face. I didn't touch her or even make it look like I was going to check and stopped. I just had my stick in her face, probay like a foot and a half away, it scared her and she veered off towards the 8 meter.
But the ref called it a 'threatening check', I've never heard of this and was wondering what the rulebook says about it. They gave the girl a penalty shot. The ref made me go behind the shooter and leave an open goal. I know this is a borderline call or I would have said something to the ref.
Also, one of our defence players asked if they could go into the crease since I wouldn't be there. The ref said they could only go if the ball was rolling into the crease. I could be wrong but I was under the impression that you can have one person in the crease at all times. Usually being the goalie, but I've seen players on other teams jump in when the goalie runs the ball up.
Ok I hope all that makes sense.
So bottom line is:
1) Whats the deal with a 'threatening check'
2) and when can a defensive player go into the crease
