For both men's and women's collegiate lacrosse Division 1 has the best comptetition and skill level all around. In terms of Division 2 vs. Division 3 for men's I'm under the impression the level is pretty similar but that Division 3 is better. For women's college lacrosse Division 3 is definitley better than Divsion 2.

as far as quantity of talent? Div 3 is better than Div 2. Notice QUANTITY. so you can say overall as a league div 3 is better, but you must understand that the div 2 is no slouch as far as talent goes. (once you get past the top 5-6 in d2 and the top 15 in d3 the level drops considerably) many of the people who play there are quite accomplished players that have the talent to play on d1 teams, but for reasons of their own choose not too.
If your question has to do with level of commitment, its d2 easily.

Yeah my coach from last season was an american, and whenever someone bought up college lacrosse he would go on and on about how div3 was better than div2 (he played at ithica and won a NCAA title). I think there are some very good players in div2 though i know for a fact that most of the aussies that have been to adelphi over the years are accomplished international players and if they were noticed by div1 scools would have been good enough to play for them.

Hey what's with that... how can a D2 team be better than a D3 team? If the D3 players were so much better than the D2 players, wouldn't they be playing D2 themselves? I'm freakin out here.................. :S

No, division in the NCAA is not based on skill (for the most part) but on the size of the school. The reason schools like UMD, UConn, Michigan, etc. are Division 1 schools is being they are in excess of 20,000 students usually. Most high schools run on the same concept in terms of division. Where I used to go there was 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A based on size.

Schools like Middlebury, Amherst, Washington & Lee, etc. are Division 3 is because they are much smaller in size (and sometimes endowment, which can equal less money for athletic programs, etc.) and therefore have less students to draw athletes from.

The order of divisions (and usually, but not always, talent) runs like this:
D 1
D 2
D 3
Junior College/Club

Some D2/3 players could be better than their divison but choose to play "lower" because of a variety of reasons, usually because of a desire to focus more on academics or to play more than one sport. Sometimes one just likes a certain school more than another despite the school's athletic division and so they choose to play there despite the status of the lacrosse team.

One thing to keep in mind, some schools have strictly D1 lacrosse programs while everything else is a different division, ie: Johns Hopkins. This is because the talent of the program is so strong.

and some d2/d3 players can play d1 level lacrosse but simple are too stupid in school to get in to a d1 school, so they end up in a d2 more often than not.

i play for a D2 school. There are more d3 schools then d2 so the camparison isnt always right. the division doesnt always corralate with talent of players. a lot of good players play d2 or d3 because they will play 3 or 4 years. it all depends on the team. le moyne and a couple other d2 schools could compete with average d1 teams...they are not syracuse but it doesnt mean they arent any good
