i just went on vacation and it was a ridiculous trying to get my stick down there with me. it fit in my luggage, a lacrosse bag, but when i got down there, one of my two heads were cracked. so for the way back i unscrewed the head from the shaft and took the heads in my carry-on. i was just wondering what way you travel with you stick and if there is an easier way then unscrewing it and having to put it back together.
i dont know exactly were to put it so im putting it here.

Is screwing the head on really that much of a hassle? You can run around on a lacrosse field, but screwing a head on, just too much.

Put a tag on the stick and throw it in the special items?I flew to Maryland outta Los Angeles International and I asked, and they said no. When I was flying home from Maryland, the lady offered to mark it fragile and put it in special items.
If you're flying from the east coast, they'll probably do it. Not out here though.
Just unscrew it.

I just unscrewed the head and put the head and shaft in a golf travel bag along with my brother and dad's golf clubs. Works perfectly.

That could just be an issue of each airport's (or airline's) own policies on the matter. It could even just come down to that specific empolyee willing to make the effort to prove that there was once such a thing as polite & friendly customer service.
Investing in a stick bag is a good option, generally they get lumped in the the golf clubs and ski gear that generally gets treated as fragile and it's a small investment when it comes to taking your chances. That's what happened the few times I flew with a dpole. Post 9/11 when I had to check my shorties, I packed the shafts in my suitcase, stuck the heads on top of my carry-ons (although depending on the newer limitations on how much & how big you can bring on with you, you can also pack the heads in your suitcase and padd them by wrapping them with whatever clothes you're bring, I've done that as well).

yea separating the head from shaft and carrying the head with you is the best way. i bought a warrior black hole bag that has a separate compartment for your sticks, like 3 if you pack them right. you could carry shorties with you on the plane pree 911?

I had done it a couple of times with no problem, it wasn't out of the ordinary to see other sports gear as well including hockey and baseball equipment on occasion. But after 9/11 it was all classified as potential weapons if allowed on board so they all got put under the items that must be checked umbrella. Bringing your head seperatlely is the best approac since it won;t leave you sight/possession, just be aware that packing the shaft in your suitcase or anything else will single out you luggage to get tossed being a long non-descript metal tube whose label that states otherwise won't be verified until they open it and see it for themselves. TSA also has approved locks for luggage now that their people can open with a key to check luggage before loading it on a plane but would otherwise keep people out of your stuff but within guidelines for protecting anything esle you packed you wouldn;t want to check unlocked.

back in the 80s we would just walk on the plane with all of our equipment on the stick, just like we were going to practice. i did that with my dpole numerous times.

unscrewing the head is definitely the way to go, not much hassle and definitely worth it

Put your shaft in one of your suitcases and keep your head in your carry-on bag.
