just wondering what you think are some of the defining players that have helped shape lacrosse to what it is today?

Gary Gait, Paul Gait, Mark Millon, Ryan Casey and especially lately Mikey Powell. Jim Brown too.

Jim Bishop, Jack Bionda, John Grant Sr, Jim Brown, Gaits, *sigh* Powells, John grant Jr, Mark Millon......

I mostly have been influenced by box lacrosse, so here's a few honourable mentions,,,,

John Tavares, Jim Veltman, Colin Doyle, etc etc etc......

field goalies.....sal locasio, cattrano, Tillman Johnson....?!? I dunno much about the position or the guys who play it...

It depends on the criteria...
Bill Tierney and Dave Pietro were players, and then coaches, and their style of coaching both have changed lacrosse...
Then yes you have Gaits, Powells (grudgingly :lol), Jim Brown, Sal Locasio (best keeper ever to play), etc...
You could also say Morrow too...while not for his playing...but he founded warrior and well they helped start and run the MLL...

Tom Phair and Tony Henderson. I slash too much and can't catch. Yup, that pretty much sums up who has influenced me.

the most popular are the powells so i would have to go with them. gait is tied with them in popularity but not in talent

You are correct...they are not tied in talent...the GAITs are more talented than the Powells...

My personal favorites are Tom Marechek and Mark Millon. The Gaits are amazing players, really changed the game. I honestly dont think the Powells, although they are phenomenal, really changed the game that much.

Marechek... Added so much flash to the game....I really think he was the match that started the fire for people liek the powells and things like "the Move"

Millon....Fast....thats all that needs to be said

YOU HAVE TO BE JOKING, POWELL BETTER?!??! WTF ARE YOU SMOKING CHILD??????

The only reason powell did what he did and wore 22 is because he was trying to emulate what he say gait do years before.....

Locasio and Bill Daye were simply amazing goalies. They set the standard for excellence.

Obviously Jim Brown definitely shaped the game, but you wonder if Brown wasnt an amazing football player, he'd get that much hype as he does now?

Although 'Cuse has had some great players other than the Powells, Casey Ryan and Mike have always been the stars at cuse and are the biggest players on probably the most popular college team in the country.

It goes without saying that the Gaits were and are simply the best players to ever step onto a lacrosse field. Even off the field, paul gait has done a huge job turning gait/debeer into a strong company, and although gary may be responsible for the g-force/hype/fuse line of gear, his coaching and sheer dominance in box field and box has made a huge difference.

Other players that have helped grow the popularity of lacrosse include Marechek, Millon, John Hess, Hubbard, etc.

What do you mean by that last statement? Before I make fun of you, I just want to be sure you meant it the stupid way.

Jimmy Brown - Nov. 26, 1965 — In his final season, Brown scored 21 touchdowns and amassed nearly 2,000 yards from scrimmage in a 14-game season at age 29. In **** Schaap's autobiography, Flashing Before My Eyes," there is a chapter (8) titled "How I Stopped Jim Brown." Schaap, a goalie for the Colgate lacrosse team in 1955, recounts how three of his 22 saves against Syracuse came on shots by Brown that he never saw. Brown put four past him, including the game-winner in overtime. Schaap remembers Brown as "the best lacrosse player who ever lived."
