A lot of these guys try to imitate pumba because they think it looks cool or something. Not really sure why, but they do.

Unta8's sig is mocking your typing skills.
Snoop Dogg once said in 'Starsky and Hutch' that he "i know this guy, who knows some guy, who robs some guy."
if you follow Snoop then ipods are cheap. real cheap actually.

does it really matter if the spelling and grammer is not 100% correct
its not like we r writing an essay or something
if we wrote everything perfectly it would take ages to write a post up cos we would keep having to go back and fixing all the mistakes

no it does not.

I can manage to type pretty well without having to go back and fix any spelling mistakes. You just get into it after a while. I use less and less slang all the time when I'm typing because I feel it makes it harded for me to write papers for school, even though I can turn my AIM talk on and off.

It is common courtesy to write legibly and coherently. If you can't accomplish that, then learn how to type.

It doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, but at least make some kind of effort. Don't type "yh lol og tht s th bts en lk tl awsum!!1!1" or whatever. It's not funny or cool, it's just hard to read and it makes you look like an idiot. :monkey:
Truly. I'm awesome at this, because I have a lot of care for it. Back before I was a mod, I lectured kids all the time. Now I have awesomer duties. WOO! So, yes, try to type like me, and I'll like you better.

Would it be considered ironic or just coincidental that deficiencies is spelt wrong in the thread title? :nahya:

Ok, I have a question for Pumba or Aussielax, or for anyone who's Australian: In Australia, do you guys say "dude"?..Or do you guys say "mate" instead?
dannothelaxman
12-03-2004, 12:16 AM
we usually say mate alot more
but dude is used sometimes
mate sounds more aussie
"hey mate" is better than hey dude"
and "how ya goin mate" sounds much better than "how ya goin dude"

I found this site recently, and it's one of the funniest sites I've come across in a while. It's called The Dialectizer, and it will translate written passages into different kinds of slang. The one that would come in most handy on TLF is the "hacker" dialect. For example, you take something like the following (post#16 on this thread).
Truly. I'm awesome at this, because I have a lot of care for it. Back before I was a mod, I lectured kids all the time. Now I have awesomer duties. WOO! So, yes, try to type like me, and I'll like you better.and The Dialectizer will translate it into this.RUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 LOLOLOLLOLOLO~~ i'm 4wesom3 at this, becuz i ahve a lot 0f car fro it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~ baX0r before i was a mod, i letcured kids all yeh time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11~~~~~~~ niow i ahve awesomer dureis wo0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111~~~~~~~ YU ARE SUCK SO,, YES, TRRY TOT YPE LICK ME, AND I'LL LIEKU BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Unfortunately, it doesn't work both ways...
If it did, it would come in really handy in trying to comprehend some of you young 'uns' posts.

Well, I figure I have a unique perspective on this topic considering I'm soon to be a teacher. You'd be surprised at how many students these days turn in papers or assignments using aol slang or 'l33t' speak, even at the college level when peer editing you see this kind of thing and it's completely absurd. For those of you that don't see a problem with not using the correct grammar and spellings while posting, just remember that the more you do something, the harder the habit is to break. Would you write like that to your boss or coworkers? Would you write like that in a paper or essay you had to turn in to a teacher or professor? Some of you will sit there and say "that's stupid, I won't do that in real life" but you'd be surprised how easy it is to slip up and find out it ruined your final paper or got you chewed out at work for not following proper procedure for internal documents.
Not to mention the fact that it GIVES EVERYONE ELSE A FREAKING HEADACHE WHEN READ!
