Well, in a game today i checked the ball out of a kids stick. he was running towards my goal and the ball was knocked to towards the sideline. i go to scoop with my d-pole, but he keeps running straight (probably thinking he still has it). he trips on my stick and i get the 30 secs. The kid was just clumsy but i got called. Was this a bad call by the ref, or is it still tripping even though its the other guys fault?

...so bad call by the ref, but I don't think that really answers Mustang's question.:runaway:

If I made that call I'd be regretting it later, assuming that you have been complete and candid in your scenario.

You were going for a loose ball, and he was running away from the loose ball. That he THOUGHT he had the ball is inconsequential.

Bad call by the ref. Everyone but eme and LaxRef and Woodie and 26 and the Odious Cardinal Puff make at least one of these per game. I feel triumphant when I can only identify 2 misses on my part.

Officiating is tough. Thank the official for coming out and play on.

NFHS rule 5-7, opponent falls over a player's stick who is attempting to scoop the ball, no trip. Ironically, I muffed that very call last week.
