Browsing through the Lax.com pictures, I noticed this one.

The UNC Defender is simply wearing the sleeve for the Supercrosse Elbow Pad, but definitely no contact pad.
Is that legal? I guess it's part of the elbow pad but, it's still just a sleeve.

i think it is illegal since it provides close to know protection like that and is altered.
It also looks like that might be a crosscheck. and it ALSO looks like the notre dame guy might be thumbing the ball on that one handed cradle. but again these are all just based off a STILL photo.
Question: any one know who that notre dame player is?

EDIT: Another angle on those slip-ons. Definitely no pad.

Thanks, thought it might be neal hicks, a former coach of mine

its legal. its the same concept as wearing shoulder pads with the removable caps and bicep pads off. He didn't alter that elbow sleeve at all. and that sleeve is a manufactured and distributed arm guard meant to be used in lacrosse. it provides the same amount of protection as the warrior neo-d sleeves.

There has to be a pad on the arm to call it an arm pad. We can all agree what an "arm" is. We may not all agree what constitutes a pad. To me, a sweatband is not a pad. I'd have to see this thing up close to decide.

My two pet peeves all in one picture! It does look like the thumb is up over the bottom of the pocket, which is why they're supposed to keep the nad off the plastic (if you do so the thumb can't reach up).
It looks like it would also be a crosscheck hold - but good luck making that call in D1 and getting another assignment.

Man, I don't know what kind of games you're officiating, but if I ever saw that I would walk off the field. :chuckle:

For your reference here is what it should like with both components
http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_4279_front.phtml
Warrior makes a bare minimum sleeve only version, but it does have a hard cap directly over the elbow.
http://www.lax.com/shop/item.phtml?page=product_4468_front.phtml
Even then you'd probably still need to see it up close and personal.

Those are totally different pads than the compression sleeve shown above. Not sure I would have picked up on the compression sleeve so much as the guy thumbing the ball.

Well considering UNC is a Brine team, my thoughts is he's wearing what's in the first link minus the elbow cap as it is a removable component. I was just trying to give LaxRef some reference as to what's missing from his "pads."

"Separate neoprene sleeve with rubber interior for slip resistance.", you are likely correct, my bad, but still no "pad".
