the palms arent removable. the gloves either come with them or without them. and the are only legal if your league plays under nfhs rules. they are called gait identities.

The guy in the magazines is wearing Macs and they are indeed palmless and illegal.
Now, onto the palm less glove issue. From what I've heard from refs, most notably a game I had last night that only the Gait Identity's are acceptable as for as palm less gloves go. So they're legal according to NFHS rules but not for NCAA play.
Gait Identity's are available with or without a palm.

No, The palmless Gait identities (according to the owner of my local store) are legal under any rules, because you don't alter them, which makes them legal

he doesnt know what hes talking about and just wants to separate you from your $$$$
as knights said, they are illegal for NCAA play. they are legal this season for NFHS play. (they will likely be illegal next season for NFHS)

He is most likely a MLL player. In the MLL you are allowed to have no palms.

Who are you going to believe, the guy trying to sell you stuff or the guys who actually read the rules?
Legal for NFHS this year based on a rules bulletin; that will likely change.
Illegal for NCAA by a rules bulletin sent to coaches and officials.
End of discussion.

I guess if you can't see the reason for it that automatically means that there is no reason for it and that everyone involved is stupid, huh? :chair:
Safety of the players is one reason. But another is that players used to slip a hand out of the glove through the cut-out palm, leaving the glove on the stick. Thus, it looked like a legal hold from behind: both hands on the stick, hands together, equal pressure. But really the guy had a handful of jersey with the hand he snuck out from the palm.
Since that's very hard for officials to catch, they just made it illegal to have the palms cut out.

Plus if you slip your hand out while stick handling and a defender lands a nice poke check, your fingers are mush.
Now you're screaming invective and the ref is baffled because the poke check was all hand and exactly what he wants to see.
Nobody likes that. Buy gloves with intact palms and don't cut them out.
