i dont know why reed was suspended, but right now i dont think it would make a difference. right now navy is absolutely kicking the crap out of maryland. its amazing how one week a team can keep one of the nations top offenses to 7 goals in one game, and the next week be down 5-0 at the half.

It was bad idea to switch goalies imo. UMD just needs to settle down, there rushing everything. My prediction was 13-7 Navy, but now its 14-3 Navy.

not having reed is huge for them. he scores a lot of goals and even when he isnt scoring he contributes to the offensive flow.
5-0 at the half
i can keep updating its on local tv here in md
i'll be editing this post for updates though until someone else posts below me. ill just let you know everytime there is a goal
--------------------
3rd quarter
--------------------
~9 minutes on the clock: Carter is looking pretty good right now, score is still 5-0 Navy as it was at the half

Yea I still have 5-0 Navy as well , but what happened to Reed? I live in MD but I'm not a huge MD fan so didn't really follow it I just remember Reed from BL.

end of third quarter
Carter is looking good in goal for UMD

Fourth Quarter
--------------------
Navy has 8 faceoff wins UMD has 3
Navy goalie is looking good also. Nice save with Navy man down from a push
11:00 left in the game, terps are doing better but navy is burning a lot of time.
Terps need to stop dropping the ball on offense.
9:47 left on the clock, terps ball
9:27 - extra man goal by Ritz score is 5-3
8:05 - one on one goal by Catalino, score is 5-4, maryland is 4-0 in the 2nd half with Carter holding it down in the cage. Entire Terps team is playing better now, more upbeat.

Great game! Carter really kept them in it. From the way he's going he might be the perniment starter.

Yeah they did blow it. They had 2 chances to score there at the end and blew both of them. But I think Maryland would have won if Reed had played and Carter started. Why wouldn't he play coming off and amazing game agaisnt Virginia. He better start the rest of the season. I love his hair to.

Navy 5-4
Got to Maryland a little after 8:30 and had to park down the hill from Byrd Stadium. Could feel my heart pounding as I climbed upward, spurred by the roar of the crowd and the loud speakers blaring into the night. Another score, I thought … and then my cell phone went off. "What did I miss," I demanded to know. "Three goals for Navy," followed by silence.
I knew before I ever reached the North Gate that the Terps were in trouble. In this match-up, at least for the last dozen years, a team with a three-goal lead … well, now that I think about it, it's hard to remember the last time either of these teams had a three-goal lead over the other … I pretty much only got to see the second half. Maryland's Jason Carter, ACC player of the week for racking up 15 saves in a win over then-No. 1 Virginia last Saturday, pitched a shutout against the 9th-ranked Midshipmen. In the third and fourth quarters, the Terps controlled the action, outscoring Navy 4-0 and leading in shots 15-9, ground balls 16-13, and caused turnovers.
Navy, however, was more dominating in the first half while building a 5-0 lead, and that was enough. The final stat sheet shows the same result that has marked this series for better than a decade: almost dead even across the board, except for face-offs. Navy's Mikelis Visgauss was a madman at the x, controlling 10 of 13 draws.
This had to be one of the most bizarre one-goal games in the 83-year history of this intense rivalry. I expected the Terps to be riding high after their conquest of Virginia. That didn't happen. I thought Travis Reed would have another good game. He didn't play. No one would have predicted that the Middies would keep the Terps off the scoreboard until the last four minutes of the third period without being referred for treatment. But they did. And Navy didn't score a single goal in the second half and still won the game. The legacy continues …
Navy netminder Tommy Phelan had to be the player of the game, and if not there should be a recount. The man was phenomenal, making 11 saves and preserving the Midshipmen's lead through their scoreless second half against a team that was averaging 12 goals per game. Both defenses were incredible, the Terps standing toe-to-toe with the best scoring defense in the land.
The Midshipmen dictated the pace of the game with a deliberate, patient offense that denied the Terps possession for long stretches. Their early dominance at the face-off x and on groundballs dug a hole Maryland couldn't climb out of. Everyone knew that would be Navy's game plan, but the Terps were unable to adjust until it was too late. It was Navy's speed -- not Maryland's -- that decided this game. Not on transition, but in the attack zone. And not by scoring, but by keeping the Terps from having chances to score.
This is the kind of game that argues against a shot clock. The action was intense; the individual and unit match-ups were exciting until the final horn; and every possession mattered. Maryland didn't extend its defensive pressure until deep in the second half. Had Navy been forced to chuck the rock at the net by a clock instead of working for the high percentage shots it prefers, this likely would have been a different game … but I don't think it would have been a better game.
