You were joking right?
Hopkins staying par with Duke is funny enough...but winning in OT?
they are 0-3 in OT this year...
they don't have the drive/stamina/will/whatever you want to call it...
If you simply said Hop 10-9 I would have left it alone...but OT...

Actually, the game is at 6pm.
I am still hoping for Hopkins to pull out the win when no one gives them a chance...especially against a team like Duke. But I really don't see it happening. Gvozden and the Blue Jays D really needs to step up big time....the whole team needs to step it up...they are not playing to the fullest of their abilities. They need to get fired up to have a chance, something they have failed to do over the past few weeks.
Duke wins 13-7.

Spenny callin the Upset i like it. but if this is a reg game then hop would have a getter chance. But with The rivalry and Duke really wanting to bury Hopkins more than they wanted to any other team. i have to give the Adv. to Duke. Duke 17-8. if duke wins, its gonna be a blowout cause they wont slow down if they get the lead no matter what. IF hopkins would pull the upset, they will win by 1. or possibly 2.

everyone saying upset must be new to the sport. hopkins is 0-3 or 0-4 against ACC teams. and duke is the cream of the crop in the ACC. hopkins maybe able to play with duke for a quarter or so, but after that duke will just clobber them. Like when duke plays one of the lower D1 teams.

But thats why it's called an upset, because it seems unlikely to happen....
I'm hoping for a Hopkins win, but I'm not so sure that will happen with the way they have been playing as of late. I hope I am wrong though.

perfect staement lol. they know now that they can be beaten. Duke really hustled on every GB and worked hard on offense and defense. good for them. on the hopkins side. 5 in a row. Not good.3-5. Future is also looking bleak. Still rough on defense with late slides.(look at all 3 Crotty goals) Also on offense. Lack of Fundamentals. Missed Passes. a lot of them. got beat on GB's. who knows what happens or if they even make the tounament.

apparently gvozden played extremely poorly. i'm shocked by the score, not that duke ran it up, but that hopkins couldnt even keep it close. i thought that they could have at least been competitive.

Hopkins is missing something.
its not personnel, nor is it coaching, because lets face it. petrois hardly ever outcoached, even in a loss.
it's heart.
they don't scrap. they don't hustle. sure they made a few big hits this game and it was a physical one, but there was a lack of something. that grit where you fight and fight. where you don't blow the slide. where you pick up that groundball.
everyone get me on that?
they simply have lost the determination, attitude, swagger and especially heart.
i'm not a big fan of good ole hop. but i anyone can tell when a team looks like they're just going through the motions.

All Hopkins fans on the boards after the first few losses kept repeating we turn it up in May. That's what the players were thinking too. I agree with Mullengoal, Hopkins has no heart. I never thought this senior class would run through the motions but thats what they have done. I don't care if their losses are "quality losses" they have lost 5 times. This team should not be in the tournament, but someone in that really wants to be there.

I covered this game for Lax.com, and i have to say, hopkins looks rough. They are quickly becoming what 'Cuse was last year. I thought that their pre-season ranking was ridiculously high coming into this year, but i never thought they would be this miserable. i think it's easy for people to blame the recent failures on Michael Gvozden, but the Defense was NOT helping him at all today; a ton of shots came from in tight. Of course, it's always difficult to play against the best team in College lacrosse, but 11 goals is just ridiculous. Hopkins is in the pits right now, and i don't see them getting out any time soon this season.

Duke is the best team in college lacrosse but this is still the same defense that shut down Greer and Danowski last year.
Greg.

Yea I am really unimpressed with Hopkins this season they really don't have someone in the cage to pull it together like Schwartzman was able to do for the team.
laxer6
04-05-2008, 10:47 PM
It's not just the defense though. This offense put up 6 goals against Duke, and 7 I believe against Hofstra. I don't know what their problem is but IL gave Hopkins midfield the edge in the scouting report and Dukes flat out killed them tonight.

I agree, they have a bunch of talent, just after those first 3 OT losses I think they have sort of given up. I mean 3 losses is discouraging but to have all 3 of them in OT (in a row) is even worse. It's a horrible feeling to loose in overtime. Maybe they'll get it together next year.

What an embarrassing loss...
I believe Mullen pretty much nailed it. The talent is definitely there. There is no doubt about that. But there is no drive, no fire lit under them. It seems they too started to think that everything would be alright, and since they're Hopkins there are no worries. It would be just like last year where they dropped a couple games, but picked it up and won 9 straight on the way to the championship. They had better get there act together soon...though it might even be too late.

I think it already is too late. They can beat a Reed-less Maryland at home but they can't beat Navy they way they are playing. Even if they do run the table and make the tournament they won't be seeded. Your talking about running a possible match up with UNC,Syracuse,Virginia or even Duke in the second round.

another weak game from paul rabil. am i surprised? not at all.
what happened to the D that shut down dano and greer? they each scored seven points. gvodzen isnt living up to his expectations. the offense has no spark. hopkins does not deserve to make the tournament at all.

I cant believe how Hopkins is doing this yr. I was so looking forward to them taking over again. I am sure they will get into the tourney and obvi they will make it to at least the final 8 teams.
I think they just play the toughest schedule and its not always possible to go a flul season losing only 1 or 2 games against the teams they play. Look at how Cuse has had some just ok records going into the tourney and then made the Final 4. I would still watch out for the Hop and bet that no team is excited about playing them still.

I was at the game.
During the 1st quarter, Hopkins looked like they might make a game of it. Hopkins outshot Duke by a wide margin and looked fired up. Duke came back in the second quarter and I think Hopkins' confidence started to waver. I cannot remember a particular play that might have turned it. Maybe it was Crotty's goals from an inverted set that Hopkins did not have an answer for either defensively or offensively. Anyway, when the third quarter opened, Duke just ripped JHU's heart out. The game was over in the third. It was pretty cold-blooded and methodical. Duke didn't run-up the score like they might have and the bench got playing time.
I think that Hopkins is dead and Duke just buried them for the remainder of the season. Kudos, though, to the Hopkins fans that travelled down to see the game. They're much better than Carolina fans. :)

Yeah--I don't see JHU contending for the title in May, but let's not forget that Cuse made it all the way to the title game in 1999 as a #8 seed. They had quite a few losses, too. Of course, there's the "Syracuse" factor, and that mystique. Of course, the 2000 team is to this day the biggest and baddest NCAA lacrosse team I have ever seen--so you can't always be too quick to write them off for a couple years. (Of course Cuse might have been "adjusting" to Desko taking over for Roy Jr., and they didn't have Springer or Glatzel due to academic issues)
That said--whoever posted that they "don't have the heart," etc--that post immediately made me think about what a guy like Benson Irwin brought to those teams a few years ago...
Wonder who will take the leadership role with this situation they are in...

Looking at the JHU roster its hard to say that they aren't talented, but the loss of great leaders, and the over-hype they received in the pre season really punched this squad, and it looks like Hopkins is just realizing and it suprises them.
