You have to get a coach to send in a letter of recommendation. Its too late to get in this year. Have a coach send in a letter in like September or august.

Is the camp full of really good people, or are there some people who are just mediocre? What's it all about too..? Especially the letter of recommendation, what should you have your coach say?

At the rising junior camp last year there were 440 kids. 20 kids per team. At Towson 2 of the fields were near the dorm, the other 2 were a pretty far walk. The closer fields had a lot of coaches watching, the farther ones had maybe 5-7 per game. College coaches also coach your team, so somebody is always watching. Last year every D1 coach was at the camp. The first day you will run through drills and then get drafted to a team. After that you play games. 3 games a day, morning afternoon, and one at night. I would bring something to do, it got pretty boring when you werent playing. I got a lot of letters, it was worth it in my opinion. If you want to be noticed the #1 thing to do is hustle. Get ground balls, back up shots, talk on defense. Coaches notice those things. If you make a mistake don't slam your stick, get back in the play. Top 205 was a great experience for me, work hard and make the most of it.

It is worth it to go anyways, because look at it this way, you can still learn from the best players in the country at this camp. A lot of the players that are in the all star game get a lot of looks, but players that don't make it still get good looks. you may not get as many though. They can only have a certain amount of kids on the all star team or else they wont be able to get you a good amount of playing time. For example if they put 5 good goalies on 1 team, how much time do you think they will get?? basically enough for 1 clear or 1 save. That wont show the recruiters anything.

How tough is it for your coach to reccomend you. Would a coach reccommend a 2 time jv at BL, or would it have to be a pretty much varsity guarantee(as a soph rising junior next year)?
Also which coach, JV or Varsity?

haha yeah your coach was pretty cool, except for when he shut me off. Honestly, who shuts a kid off at a recruiting camp? oh well, overall i would say that this camp was well worth the money. naderlax23
06-27-2008, 04:29 PM
haha i think you misunderstand me. i would never expect to see a d middie at 205, it's just that most of the midfielders weren't very complete players. I would wager that most D1 middies could play defense if they really had too, even if they're offensive specialists

StickTrick
06-28-2008, 12:52 PM
If a middy can't play D they might as well call themselves attack. Midfield should be scooping up every ground ball a D man shakes loose with the endurance to run the fast break all day long. IMO, There should be little exception to his ability to play both ways well or else he's not doing his job.

naderlax23
06-29-2008, 04:23 PM
i wouldn't go that far stick trick. i'd say it's the biggest difference between a midfielder and attack is probably athleticism. Not that there aren't any athletic attackmen, hell mikey powell is one of the best out there, but in general middies have to be able to do a lot more stuff. Most if not all college teams run two sets of midfielders, but i bet that most offensive midfielders are athletic enough to play defense if they needed to. I'm no defensive specialist, that's for sure, but i can still force someone down a side. i was just suprised that some of the same kids that showed such incredible speed and balance on offense could be so bad at defense.

Mayhem
06-29-2008, 08:55 PM
a lot of those kids are from sick MIAA teams or good teams around the US. Those teams probably have specialists such as LSM's and such. Maybe because you from Tennessee, which isnt exactly a hotbed, you forced to be able to be more rounded out and do all the jobs. If you know what im getting at
oh, and that wasnt an insult, it was actually a compliment. I heard the Viirginia coach say things about looking at some non-hotbed areas because those kids work at every part of their game

naderlax23
06-29-2008, 09:42 PM
Haha alright this'll end it. What i'm saying is that even if they do nothing but offense all practice i was still suprised that the midfielders couldn't keep up with each other on defense. Of course i don't expect them to handcuff an all american, but i did expect them to be able to use there quick feet that they use on offense to play d.

P.S. Lol we have LSM's too. I go to a boarding school and pretty much our whole team is from the northeast or north carolina.
