View Full Version : Do you have any drills?

I am involved with building the foundations of a new club in the south east of England. Due to the availability of affordable floodlit training facilities we are currently training on a concrete basketball court. This means that it is difficult to work on a lot of things so we tend to concentrate mostly on stick skills and handling. This is no problem as we are getting a lot of new players aged anywhere from 16 to 30 year old who have never picked up a stick before. They are all improving at a rapid rate but you can only do the same drills so much before people start to get bored of them. Do any of you have any drills that you use that I may be able to throw into the mix to liven training up a little?

Try www.ontariolacrosse.com. They have some free coaching materials for Canadian box lacrosse. Those would fit your current situation just fine. They also have forms to let you order additional materials.

PM me with your e-mail address, I can send you plans for a couple of simple pass, run, shoot drills that will let you teach the basics (loose ball recovery, passing, cradling, dodging, shooting). These drills are conducted "on-the-run" at 3/4 to full speed, so are excellent for preparing for game situations.

As for positioning drills - well, your current practice facility limits what you can do, and I only know box lacrosse well. I'm sure you'll think of something.

HI, we are new to men's lacrosse but we have built up some basic skills like cradling, catching, scooping, etc. But our concept on offence amd defence is extremely weak that led us to be defeated. We really want to improve our sense and therefore we are looking for some drills that can develop the concept, especially those in team offence and defense...We dun have a coach indeed, is there anyone can help us?

I recommend doing the usual things, like ball drills, but also thinking about the types of offenses and defenses you want to use. Even in a small space, you can practice basic systems, plays, and slide packages. Start small (1 on 1, 2 on 2, etc.) and build up. For example, if you want to use an offense that uses a lot of double crease play (1-4-1 or 2-2-2), you can go 3 on 3 with a defenseman and attack behind the goal and two creasemen. You can even do a little 6 on 6 in such a small space. In 2002, we were stuck on a tennis court for most of the winter, but we still won a German Championship that year when I was in Frankfurt.
