Does anyone know how to do a proper cup check oin their players ? I had a coach who made you do the knock, knock thing,,and if you didnt do it, you sat out the whole game...

What other ways are there ?

i know when i used to play baseball they would hit you there with a bat maybe use the same method with lacrosse but subsititute a bat with a lacrosse stick.
this really should be in the officiating forum though

i co coach for a team in va, and when i do cup checks i tell them to line up in a line shoulder to shoulder, then i got up and swing as fast as i can, but stop right before you hit them, if they flinch, they run a lap for not having a cup

well its natural to flinch when you are about to be hit by something. cup or no cup.

It would still hurt if you have a cup. So winding up is a really dumb way to do a cup check.

All our coach had to do was tell us a story about a player who's testicle exploded due to him not wearing a cup. Nobody really pushes it anymore unless they are really cocky.

Our coach won't check if we are wearing a cup (that IS weird), but if you get hit there, this is what happens:

*you get hit in the nuts and fall to the ground*
Coach: You wearing a cup, ______?
Player: No...
Coach: Then get up. No cup, no sympathy.
Player: Ok coach *gets up slowly due to pain*
Coach: I said Get up! Run!

Some kid started the season wearing the cup on my team then stopped. He stated "My balls aren't worth the 20 dollars it costs for a cup" in a jokingly manner...the next game he gets a shot right in the nuts. but our coach doesn't do cup checks though, our excuse is that we all have small packages therefore we don't need a cup..

I would advise everyone to wear cup, it is completely idodic not to wear one. Our goalie last game took a shot there, and his cup pretty much split in half. He had to go the hospitial and was there for a couple hours. Imagine what would have happened if he didn't wear a cup. I can picture people saying "whats the chance its going to happen to me?". I does happen, quite often too. A teammate of mines friend (I kind of know him) got hit reaaaally hard without a cup, and now he can't have kids. It dosen't take much effort to put in a cup and take it out, and it dosen't rub against anything or become uncomfortabe if you put it in right, so just do it. Your kids will thank you.

Thank God our coach doesnt do one, probly half our team would be sittin out, including me. Man i hate reading threads like this cuz they always are about people getting nailed in the nuts and they make me feel guilty (and scared) for not wearing one, lol.

i could totally see blake saying that...

yeah i wear a cup now every time... 2 reasons. one day, our coach came around and did a cup check. no one had one. we ran the next hour and a half of practice... and that was after our warmup run. the other is because everytime i dont wear one i seem to get hit there... mostly by coaches... which is interesting...

about that...
:jawdrop:

But in all seriousness, our coach doesn't care whether or not we are wearing a cup. The way he sees it, if you want to wear one, then wear one. If you want to risk it, then don't wear one.

Haha, yeah, ever watch Super Troopers, thats the cup you need! And to your previous question as to why i dont wear a cup. I dont think they are very comfortable and i wore one all last year and nothing bad happened, so if my logic holds up *crosses fingers* this year should be alright to, right? lol

you probably saw my last post about how i check for cups, i should also mention my oldest brother used to play high school football. he was a punter and was insanely good. he was going on a full scholerchip to navy for football, but one day during practice, he wasnt wearing a cup and switched places with the dude who holds the ball on punts. the guy wound up and MISSED THE BALL and kicked my bro in the nuts. he then had to get one removed and the other isnt working so he cant have kids. i now always wear a cup

p.s. he didnt get the scholership cuz of this injury!

The people in the second half of the line are going to realize that you are not going to actually hit them and not flinch, even if they weren't wearing a cup.

first of all, who holds the ball on punts?

second, how do you miss kicking a ball and kick a kid in the nuts... that's just retarded...

third, why would a player missing a testicle be any worse than one with both? I.E. Lance Armstrong.

plus, you don't pay to go to navy anyways. you just have to work for them when you graduate. so they don't give out scholarships.

i dont understand why you think im lying, you cant make up a story like that, i just got my facts wrong. jeez lay off

Prof. Mushroom
04-18-2008, 07:42 PM
Relax. It's not that big of a deal. As soon as one person says mentions that he thinks he is lying , everyone jumps on the bandwagon and agrees. A couple posts up, someone asked what the advantages of lying on a website are? Exactly, there are really no advantages so why would want to lie? Granted, people still do it, but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He is sticking by his story, and I hardly think he would sit around thinking up that type of story just so he could post it on an online forum. Even if he was lying, it doesn't really matter in the long run.
....It's rather ironic that I said for everyone to relax and then I go and write this....oh well, I've said my bit. I'm moving on...
