for those of us who are football fans, we heard it all this fall with the pats, "its not our job to stop us".........but in the world of lacrosse, is 30 crossing the line?? I mean lacrosse is about winning and scoring points but does it come to a point where enough is enough?? o and by the way GO GIANTS!!

i have not seen it this season, but in the junior college league, onondaga has put up 30 four times this season......i think its prolly really fun, but definitly crossing the line.....and a couple years back GC did it to a couple of teams when they had dean gibbons and he was chasing the points record.....GC=Garden City....

well i think at a point its the coaches responsibility to keep his team from shooting the ball. this is coming from a pats fan too haha.

I agree with navylax. At a certain point scoring is just ridiculous. I don't think you also have to look at what the other team is putting up. If you have 20 and the other team has 5 or under I think it's past time to stop. Forget about going until 30. This is also coming from a Pats fan

It depends. Last year my team was in a tie for 3rd and the deciding factor was goals for. In a few of our games we put up 22, 28 goals for this exact reson. If youre not in a pinch like we were, it is unsportsmanlike to put up more than needed.

Back in the 60's an established HS varsity team was playing a first year varsity team. Before the game the coach determined what the biggest shutout score was and then proceeded to break that record. If I remember correctly the score was 37 or 38 to 0.
The coach of the team holding the old record had emptied his bench and instituted a rule requiring a specific number of caught passes before a shot was taken. The coach of the team that broke the record kept his best attackman in the whole game. That player went to Navy and was a THREE time first team All-American and a THREE time attackman of the year. At the time, the NCAA did not allow freshmen (plebes) on a varsity team.
Sometimes you can't avoid running up the score no matter who you put in the game, but then there are the situations where a coach looks to break a record and keeps his best players in the game. Any coach that does the latter does not belong in the coaching profession.

it depends. if your blowing a team out, and you leave your starters in, then thats bad. But if your like a high school team, and your blowing out another team, and you have your scrubs in, let them score. thats probably one of the only times those kids are going to have an oppurtunity to score or anything, so let them play.

the other day we were beating a team 10-0 at the end of the 1st quarter, so my coach made the starters pass it 8 times before shooting, and they can only shoot from outside the box. at half he put the back-ups (me) in and let us do what we wanted for the 3rd quarter, after which it was 14-0. so he made us hold onto the ball and not shoot. i was literally in front of the net ready to shoot and my coach yelled "if you shoot that ball you are doing sprints after the game." long story short, 30-0 is unsportsmanlike, unless the other team is full of jerks.

pshhh our coach made us stop scoring after the score was 16-2. the last goal (16-3) our goalie just gave up. it made me mad because the team was acting up and stuff, and we werent allowed to score because coaches thought that it could discourage them. it was also probably the only time we would ever do that because our team sucks.

If we score twenty or more then we have to run the entire practice the next day. I would definitely agree with my coach, it's just not sportsmanlike to blow a team out like that with more than twenty goals, unless of course it is a high-scoring but tight game.

I heard today at my practice that recently Roanoke beat Hood College something like 32-2. Thats just what I heard.

if i was a coach, i would tell my defense to start grabbing shorties and play middie by the time we're up by 12 because:
-if you're up by 12, it means your defense is probably bored stiff
-it forces them to develop some stick skills they don't usually use.
-it will hopefully reduce scoring.

We won 28-0 nothing last Tuesday, our coach is a great guy he just never told us to let up so we kept scoring. This is HS varsity level too by the way.

Should have scored and done the sprints.

yeah... running the score is pretty weak... up 10, coast... if your bench warmers are scoring too, switch your attack and defense around... or move your middies to attack, and your attack to d... with your d at mid with shorties...

ya we were killing a team I think like 15-0, the 3 goalies went in on attack. Defense played midfield, a middie played goalie, and me (attack) played long pole. I scored BTW. But if a team is beating another team bad, then the players should work on plays and strategy for practice for when they play a good team.

My schools last year team put up lik 22-0. our coach told us to stop. then this year. the committee explained how we weren't that good.( since weve been undefeated for 2 yrs). and now our coach lets us go all out.

yea, id say anything over 15 is over the line. i say 15 because it helps your team in the rankings if you win big. but anything more than that is just not classy. we stop shooting at 15, usualy go into practicing different defensive sets. when we get the ball we just work it aroung and "miss" a pass and let it go out.

What if the score is 15-12 going into the fourth?
At some levels, the coach can still clear his bench, and they just keep scoring. If I am a fourth line midfielder, or even a 6-7 attackmen, and I get in a game for the first time that year, you can bet I am shooting the ball if I get the chance.
Look at Roanoke's 31-2 win over Hood. They had 15 different players register at least 1 goal. Some of those were players first goals of the season.
