Hey, my little brother has decided he would like to try pole for next year. I am thinking since he is only going to be in 5th grade, which is the age they just start using longpoles i would get him a simple aluminum. He is about 5ft tall, should i cut it down for him since he is going to be in 5th grade or leave it normal length. Also will a aluminum longpole hold up for him or will something stronger, like a platinum alloy be needed.

Platinum alloy is not that much more expensive but is MUCH better.

platinum poles are a good choice, so are stx steeles. They wont break the bank and are a solid choice for beginners. depending on how tall he he, you might have to cut it down to make it more manageable. Try not to take off alot, no more then 6 inches. you want to get him used to the longest pole he can handle because its an advantage to have those extra inches.

the kids i coach are that age and their pole + head total around 5 ft (as opposed to like 6 i guess)

or try a goalie shaft. My son in also in the 5th grade, I had him use a goalie shaft for a long pole for part of the season. Then I got a Ignite Supra for $25, cut off about 8 inches and he used that for the rest of the season. A STX Steel is another great choice or just a plain Ignite. As pvlax02 says, neither will break the bank.

honestly it might be harder but in my eyes i think you should keep if full cus either way hes gonna have to get used to it....just have him practice his pokes and cradling and such
