Hopkins was crisp on Saturday (Evan Habeeb)You can often gauge a game's importance in the sporting landscape by the size of the media presence. Saturday's Maryland-Hopkins game is a perfect example. Even though Virginia was hosting Duke and Georgetown traveled to Loyola, Christian Swezey of the Washingotn Post, Patrick Stevens of the Washington

I feel the key difference was the overwhelming face-off win percentage of JHU, who had only had a 51% up until the game. With more possessions and, in turn, more shots on goal, the Bluejays were able to dominate the game.

You can talk about switching the O or whatever...that really wasn't that huge of a factor...
The MAIN reasons Hop won...
1. Gvozden went from blackhole to wall...this is the BIGGEST reason by far...one of worst save% coming in and pulls out the performance he had?! (I'd like to hear what he did different heading into MD game)
2. As Augusta pointed out...FO...15/18 is insane especially for a team only doing around 50%
3. MD's implosion...Reed's poor off-field choices, No one stepping up to take his place...just seemed to be a bit more sluggish...
Hops turnovers should still be a concern...Gvozden is still a ? unless he can post another strong outing, I still say hes the weakest link...same with FO...if they can do it again then they are turning around...if not, MD game was just a fluke

1. face-offs- hopkins had fourteen turnovers and only six more shots than maryland, even though they dominated on face-offs. if it was around 50-50, this would have been a much different game.
2. mike gvodzen being a beast. his save % is now at 52%, so it must have been pretty miserable before.
3. hopkins d playing the way they did last year in the championship game. the terps offense runs through ryan young, and he didnt score a point. its probably a bit easier without travis reed, but dont let that overshadow the jays great defense.

Freshman playing in big spots for Maryland in a big rivalry game may have gotten to them also. The bigger question is will Hopkins now get back to their going through the motions mode against an extremely tough Navy squad?
