did the ncaa do their research? Championship weekend is a 3 day celebration of the sport of lacrosse correct? So where the hell is everybody supposed to go when the games are over? I have travelled through and stayed in the "foxborough area" and i tell ya, its in the middle of nowhere, 25+ miles south of Boston with a truckstop and like 4-5 MOTELS nearby. How do they expect to handle the crowds? Anybody have an idea?

I HATE THE IDEA OF THE FINAL 4 WEEKEND UP NORTH
IM IN CENTRAL NY
WE WANT TO GO SOUTH FOR THE BIG GAMES - NOT EAST
PLUS PLAY THE GAMES IN A LACROSSE TOWN / STATE

at least philly and baltimore have the stadiums centrally located IN a major city so when things are done, take a trip by bus, train, foot to the inner harbor or center city and tie one on and be ready for the next day. In "foxborough" you are 2 beers away from a DUI as soon as you leave the property..And oh yeah, the stadium i think is actually in Sharon mass not foxborough
sorry, SOUTH WALPOLE

^ yeah i think his caps lock button must be stuck. or else every single thing he has to say has to be a rant
but for the record I could not agree more with what he is ranting about it was a STUPID idea for them to put it in boston, plus the traffic around Gillette stadium was rated the WORST a year back by sporting news...they have something like 3 roads leading into the stadium its gonna suck

The NCAA solicited bids and the Sullivan family (owners of the Patriots) outbid everyone else with the lowest price. In fact, it's going to be in Foxboro in 2009 and possibly the year after that as well (not 100% sure on that last part).
It's all about money and gate revenues in the end.

one year it should be in long island. i no thers not many stadiums( even going into shea stadium in Queens isnt a bad idea), but if long island is not THE hotspot for lax, then i dont know what it is.

Here is the thing. For bpoz, you are horibly mistaken about where foxboro is. It is north of boston. STAY IN PROVIDENCE RHOAD ISLAND. It is just as far away if not closer. They re-did providence so it is a great city now.

I think they're counting on everyone staying in Boston. If you read any of the ads in IL, they talk about all these great events in Boston and the free train service.
I don't see what was wrong with Baltimore, or even Philly, but maybe Foxboro will work out well.

Firstoff, the stadium is 25 miles SOUTH of boston and approx 25 miles north of providence ri. It is essentially smack dab in the middle. Check MSN maps if u like.
Second, i did quite a bit of travelling in my day and the one thing i learned is that the stadium is located on RT 1 and basically there are 5-6 motels and a truckstop in the near vicinity of the stadium. After that, you will have to travel a bit if you want to enjoy the nitelife of Boston or Providence.
Lastly, there is a state trooper barracks located about 2 miles north of the staduium. Can u say DUI? lets all realize that this weekend i one giant tailgate with people bringing campers and such. The reason the Patriot fans never have a problem is that they already live in Mass/RI but here you will be having people come in from all over the country. I just think that putting such an important game in a venue that is really ill equiped for it is dumb and bacwards thinking. So many people were complimenting Philly and Balt as pefect situations to highlight our sport. Then we move it it to a stadium in the woods miles away from anything else? Just does not make sense.

im surprised only one person posted on this thread mentioning that theres a train ride from boston for free (was going to use caps, but im just not as angry right now). on another note, there is no reason to be moping around about this when it hasnt even happened yet. for all we know, itll break the attendence records by a land slide. theyve been doing a great job of advertising for it, unlike philly and balt., which i honestly didnt know which stadium was which year until the weekend came. east coasters will disagree with this naturally, but keep in mind. east coast. i think after foxboro, go back to balt or philly for a year, and go west. expand the exposure of the sport. east coasters, you can afford to travel west, its ok, we do the trecking from where we are. great western places. two come right to my head, chicago and denver.

As much as I don't think it will live up to Philly/Bmore, I will give it a chance.
There are many more potential problems with the game at this venue, but who knows, they could surprise us and pull off a great time.
They still should NOT have gone to Boston for 2008 & 2009 immediately. When Philly was tried, it was 1yr Philly then back to Bmore so they could see how Philly did. A test run if you will.

I agree with steg in the sense that it seems a bad idea to go ahead and schedule the '09 Championship Weekend at Foxboro without first testing out how it fares for '08. It might set records, it might not. It just seems rather ridiculous to have made a two-year deal with an untested venue. They could have at least waited to see how everything worked out before booking it for next year.

I also agree. Philly/Balt were on what i would call a trial basis, but to completely hand over 2 more years to an untested facility makes me wonder why. And i am not trying to be a downer here but i am being realistic. When u have a venue that is isolated, you end up spending a lot of your time travelling to and from that facility. Now, the location in terms of traffic is another. You are located on a 2 lane hwy that connects to 2 major highways that lead to either Boston/providence. All this adds up to 1 large traffic jam pure and simple.
Realize that i am a huge lax fan as well as my son. We try to go to 1 local college game per week as long as it fits around his youth schedule. Hopefully this whole thing turns out alright but the venue is way too far from jersey to do a day trip like Balt/Philly and i am sorry but i do not feel like paying 150 a nite for a hotel room just so a can go see lacrosse.
