View Full Version : Disadvantage to dyed head?

I was wondering if theres any disadvantage. I mean, does it make it easier to track a shot coming from, say, a dyed black head? Does it make it easier for him to find the ball in the shooter's stick?

Personally i dont believe so. Only dye that may affect play is a pink or other flashy color, most defenders tend to punish the neon.

there was an article on e-lacrosse with an hypothesis that a stick dyed to look like a milksnake will actually help the shooter by making it look like there are multiple heads thus making the goalie lose track of the ball.

well actually i was thinkin of dying mine black lol...i play D, and i was wondering if dying it will negate the advantage defensemen have shooting with the pole, in regard to goalies....any goalies in the house?

I have not heard of any theories like the ones already posted. Possibly weakening it from the boiling water, also a voided warranty.

well... dyed heads are weaker than non-dyed heads...

Black head, white head, green head doesn't really matter. I hate taking shots from long poles. Being a new goalie (12 days total, 5 starts and doing damn well for someone whos been playing the position for less than 2 weeks) i HATE how difficult it is to read a longpole shot. The late release cuts down my reaction time to near nothing, especially near the crease.

I'd imagine black mesh would make locating the ball easier, but for a black head i wouldnt really see a difference in my ability to react and stop it.

coming from a 5 year goalie, long pole shots are the absolute worst.

I second that, long poles that can shoot suck.

The only disadvantage to dyeing heads is it voids the warranty. I dont believe any of that making the head weaker bs.

well it shouldnt matter if you can hide your stick well.

i hate longpole shots too, its ridiculously hard to read and react to them

1) longpole shots: the worst

2) dyed heads:

a) theres a point at which its an advantage to a goalie, maybe its at the JV level? most youth goalies are still learning, so picking the ball out isnt any easier. they may get attracted by the colored head when it DOESNT have a ball. i think by the time a goalie gets to starting on a HS varsity team, he's going to find the ball regardless of what color stick its in. (and as macdaddy says, learn to hide your stick regardless of what color it is)

b) dying MIGHT weaken the head, ive played with a LOT of heads over the years (including when most heads came dyed from the factory) and i DONT believe that a dyed head is any weaker than a undyed one.
if there are any materials scientists onboard perhaps they can advise us further

c) the only proven disadvantage: it voids your warranty

just wondering, why are longpole shots so hard to save?

oviedolax

the release is very different from a short stick shot

so in conclusion, the color of the HEAD (not mesh) should have basically no effect on the goalie being able to find the ball in my stick when shooting (thus making it easier for him to save it)?

Yea if you dye your head it won't make it any easier/harder for the goalie to find your shot, on the other hand white mesh will obviously make it harder for goalies to track the ball and colored mesh will make it easier. And other points dying a head usually weakens the plastic a little bit which will make the head more likely the warp or even break, and also dying a head voids the warrenty.

shoulda told that to our captain last year who insisted in warming up the goalie with a long pole...

i like how you guys say that white mesh is better at hiding the ball seeing that my entire team uses black mesh....

if you get your head dyed by a lacrosse store instead of doing it yourself you usually still have your 6month warranty.

i think dyed heads are only weaker when inexperienced people leave their heads in the dye too long and they get soft.

im a longpole and i attempted a shot in a game this week on a fast break and i cradled to shoot on the ground and shot it up at the the corner of the opposite post and if it had been a foot lower it would have been a goal, the goalie didnt even see it, so i dont know

Not true. Once it's dyed, the warranty is void. I konw from personal experience last year.

Warrantys all depend on the company. For example Gait still warrantys their heads even after they are dyed.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it makes your head more flexible.

According to Rock-it pocket, even if they dye your head the warranty is still void.

"PLEASE NOTE THAT HEAD DYE VOIDS THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY IN ALL CASES!! We are not able to warranty dyed heads!"

also, how much more narrow is the revo pro than the revolution? I have the revo pro and love it but it tends to get pinched to the point of illegality and will be illegal in 2010. from what i understand the revolution will be legal, and it appears to be a similiar design.

also didn't it help the goalies by making it seem like the head was bigger if the goalie had dyed his head like this

no i guess the revolution wont be legal. theres a forum on this i just cant find it right now. it should be the first one under equipment.

and i dont really believe that dyeing a head makes it weak, if it does can someone prove it to me

dam i love being a pole and being able to shoot :)

anyway bright color sticks are magnetically atracted to defensmens sticks so dont die it bright. lol
