Hello all, I can string sticks pretty well but have never dyed a head before, so I'd like to try my hand at dying a head.

My team mascot is the Catamount and my school colors are black and Carolina blue. (Think of JHU colors.) Because of this, I'd like to do a blue and black "tiger" stripe pattern.

How many/what color packets of RIT dye should I buy? How do I get the black to stay black even after I dye the blue? Should I use electrical tape or hot glue?

I'd just like a few pointers, because I don't want to go ruining a perfectly good head with a botched dye. (I already know the process of dying, thanks to a few good tutorials here on TLF.) Thanks a lot.

EDIT: For anyone else who has any tips, this is what I'm going for:

alright, so here is what id do

dye the entire head blue, just go buy a packet of RIT powder dye of whichever blue you want (evening, royal, or navy or denim, etc)

then after uve done the blue, dry the head completely under running cold water

then put it in the freezer for a little bit to let the color set

then take a glue gun and make random stripes

now take you RIT black (may want to use two packets or get water really hot and leave the head in longer than usual)

after you get the black you need, take the glue off and your should have it!

min pretty much summed it up well. You can tell the color the blue will be by the color of the dye box, but evening blue would probably match your team colors best. Be sure that your water is extremely hot when you do it (add some salt to it to make the boilin temp rise).
