Hey, I'm relatively new to lacrosse and I don't understand the concept of putting tape on your stick.
First, what kind of tape do you guys use? Where can you find it?
Second, how do I wrap it?
Third, where do I wrap it?

Ok, the tape I use is medical tape(the kind that rips easily where you would try to cut it). Any rite aid, cvs, etc, or even your trainer should have it.
Where you wrap it is your preference, but I do it on the bottom(securing the but end, and making a nice grip), one little strip about 2/3's up the stick for when I shoot lefty, and another piece like 2 tape width's on the top right under the head. To wrap it, just take a piece, and put it on diagonally wrapping it around like on a candycane or something.

1. Athletic tape which is the same as medical tape. I get it from sporting goods stores since they are usually the only ones who have black tape.
2. Wrap it tight in the opposite direction you cradle so it doesn't peel. I also put a dot of superglue at the end to prevent peeling.
Here's two of my sticks

The top wraps are for cradling/facing off, the middle are markers/grips for passing and the bottom is for one handed checks. The butt wrap is just off the end of the end to shorten up the grip a bit and keep it from pulling off.

Well when you cradle one way wouldnt your hand have to come back the way it came therefore peeling the tape anyway?

i do the same exact thing and nice cut mesh i did one and love it. but i feel the top pieces of tape help me get a jump on face offs but if you dont take faceoff it is a waste anyway nice jobs and to nooblax its all preferance but i do what tigerlax does its just good for face off middies

you use tape so you have grip on your shaft with your gloves on.
i use either hockey(right now) or medical tape, and i use a tape butt end and tape up stick from he bottom up about 10 inches or so.

You would think so but it doesn't seem to as much. Regardless I still put a little superglue on it.

Glad the pocket worked well for you. I played with the setup on the left for about 2 years. I changed it up a little since I'm experimenting with that composite mesh in my clutch but the general concept is the same.
I started doing the top pieces of tape for face offs but I like it just for general use. Maybe I just got used to it but I like the wider diameter.

Yeah, the tape sits in the web of my hand.

Black tape hasn't done anything to my gloves.

Hockey tape or what ever you can find in your team's med kit works just great. Then it is up to you on how you want to tape it. But at least tape your butt cap on so it doesnt fall off. For me I do some tape up where the head and shaft meet and make a tape b ut at the bottom so I can have a larger one for poke checks and the tape up from the bottom about a glove and a half. Personly don't like that much tape on my stick and some times the black tape has tar in it which can do bad stuff to your gloves.

You tape it wherever you feel is neccesary adn wherever you grip your stick. Sometimes I like tape at the bottom for playing defense and two strips where my top hand sits, and then for when I'm choked up I have the two strips in easy access to my bottom hand and have two strips for my top hand. If this doesn't make sense I'll post a pic.

does anyone know anything about this? two guys on my team who play hockey told me that you shouldnt use black tape because it wears out your gloves faster.

in what places would i tape a dpole
I tape the bottom, put a full tape ring around where I do all my checks, and a half tape ring for where i catch/throw.

i use hockey tape
its stiffer than medical/athletic tape you would wrap your ankles with, but it still is woven fabric, and is basically made to go on sticks, i usually get mine at dick's or play it again, just look in the hockey section
i tape from the butt end upwards a couple of inches for a nice grip.
to do this, start by wrapping with the edge of the tape against the ridge of the butt end, go around at least twice, then rotate it up, like a candy cane, overlap the tape a little under halfway over the top of the spiral below it (it sounds confusing, but it does make sense), cut (you can tear it, but a nice clean cut with scissors will make it less likely to peel) and smooth it over
then i go just under a foot up the shaft from the butt end, and i do two strips, about an inch apart, the width of the tape, just start it and wrap it around on top of its self a few times
i do the same thing near the top, about three inches below the bottom of the head
this setup gives me a solid bottom grip, a grip where i hold when i shoot, a grip up top where i hold when i catch (whenever possible) or cradle one handed, and the grips are where i put my hands when i faceoff

For my poles, I always tape the butt end so it won't fall off, and sometimes either where I hold my top hand in my defensive stance, or to the point where my bottom hand is choked up.

As you can see I use a good bit of black tape on my stick and have used white tape in the past. There is no difference in the amount of wear in your gloves.
What makes a difference is the manufacturer of the tape. I'm using ACE now which seems to be the easiest on gloves. I can't remember the other types but one roll I had was really hard on gloves.

Exactly what kind of tape is this?
http://laxworld.com/item.php?sku=HT
I've been using pretty much just Laxworld tape, but it rips so easily. I think it just might be how I tape, but it literally starts to rip apart on my shaft after about a day. The only thing that stays intact is the butt.

If you burn the tapes end and make it smooth, it wont rip as easily, unless it gets hit by another stick of course. Tape is all personal preference, because some players dont use any and others use way to much. Hockey tape works the best for me, but i change tape constantly.

Is it true you're supposed to tape in the opposite direction of which you cradle or does this not really affect anything?

howies hockey tape is the sr\trongest, easiest to rip, longest lasting tape

It wont affect anything since if you tape it for when you cradle righty, it would be the opposite when you cradle lefty.

Tape direction doesnt matter, but take some wax and rub it on the seam where you riped helps keep the tape from unpealing when cradling.

I use all kinds of tape, but generally I stick to hockey tape.

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5400/dscn0556gr2.th.jpg (http://img258.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0556gr2.jpg)
I only use a little bit of tape just because I don't need it. So when I tape my D Pole I have just the end taped so it looks like this:
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5406/dscn0561cz5.th.jpg (http://img148.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0561cz5.jpg)
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/348/dscn0563ko7.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0563ko7.jpg)
If you don't know how to make the end like mine all you have to do is make a strip of tape and rap it around the stick like this:
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/1483/dscn0562eh1.th.jpg (http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0562eh1.jpg)
And I always make the tape a little bit longer than my glove.

I tape 4-6 inches up the bottom of my pole, then 1 or 2 rings for where I put my hands when I throw, poke, push, shoot, etc.
