I am in a very tough situation right now. I am a seinor defenseman on my schools varsity team. this is my 5th year playing i started in 8th grade. in 8th grade i played every game half the game on the b squad. in 9th grade i started for half the season. and in 10th grade i started for half a season. in 11th grade i made the varsity team and we had a full defensive line already so i got basically no playing time. so i was hoping seinor year would be my year to play then came fallball and i was still not making the cut. at that point i new it was time for change. i was overwieght not fast and not a smart player. i was ready come the season i lost 60 pounds worked out the whole time, i have the i now am very well built and even have a 6 pack and am alot faster and smarter player. come our first game i missed a practice the day before and was unable to play in the game. i was sick. durring that game a junior played he played well hes a decent player i just feel im better. now half way into our season i have gotten alittle playing time but its about 14 mins in 5 games. the team is very stacked on defense. we have a 3 year starter on defense hes a junior and hes been talking to the syracuse coach. we have another junior who is a vary good player and hold down his spot. we had a 4 year starting seinor that was moved down to defesne from lsm cause the coach felt the defence was lacking. and they put a sophmore in the lsm postion hes decent but still makes alot of mistakes. and the juunior that played over me in that game still gets alot of play time but isnt a starter he goes in on close durring the face off then get taken off the field after the face off. the only way for me to even get a spot on defense they would have to move the seinor back to lsm so i could play close. i really wana play in college. and for me to do that im gona have to play in high school. i know im good enough to play i shut down our attackmen in practice one going to hofstra one to st johns and the other going to ithaca. i know im ready to play im just not getting the oppurtunity.
i really need a way of stealing that starting spot. we still have 8 games left before play offs and were ranked 3rd in our section. i just need thing that will make me shine in practice so i can get the oppurtunity to show it to them in a game.
sorry for typing so much and for the bad grammar. but thank you to anyone who read this and anyone who can give me anytips.

Stay after and get some one on one with the coach if you can. Ask him what you need to work on and then do it.

^ totally agreed. the coach needs to know that you are this dedicated, and that you are willing to work this hard to get the starting position. you need to ask him what he wants to see out of you that could get you that starting position, you can do it. be faithful.

i have done this several times and all its got me is im the 5th person in the man down. pretty much if two poles get a penalty i go in. we have 10 poles on the team.
pretty much were kinda stacked on defense i need a way to stand out because for them to play me there gona have to sit a the sophmore lsm and bump the seinor to lsm. [the seinor is way better at lsm anyway] the coach kinda wants to put him up there, but they also need the soph to get some expirence cause the seinors gone next season

maybe he's right, maybe he's wrong. you know how good you are. act like you're the captain and its your team.make sure you push you whole defense as a unit and earn the trust of you team. i know someone who got cut from varsity because he made everyone mad including coaches ,and no one had chemistry with him so he wasn't trusted.when coaches see this they cant ever use him when it counts.

remember as the role of a leader you need to make sure that you push you slowest runner, weakest guy, least expirenced kids that are on you team.remember your only as strong as your weakest guy.

show some leadership among the defensive unit in practice.....and kill yourself in practice(run your hardest, get ever ground ball, etc.) It can happen in one practice. A freshman middie who started playing when he was in 8th grade plays def. middie for my varsity team, our coach recognized his hard work in one drill and he got moved up that quickly. WORK HARD AND IT CAN HAPPEN.STAY POSITIVE TOO.

if you ever get a practice cancelled for something, just find your coach and ask him to work with you on something that you aren't good at whether its shooting, checks, footwork, anything. and if he can't work with you then ask him to draw up a couple of drills for you to do, coaches love that.
