Hey everyone, i have a question that i hope will spark some good comments and good discussion..Im out of college looking to start a family with my new wife and wont be able to move to another part of the US due to the industry i work in, which leaves me in a jam..I love lacrosse (even though i never played) and i want my children to someday be exposed to playing lax but i live in the TX panhandle and I maybe one in a handful of people that follows lacrosse let alone ever seen it played..does anyone know of a way to get this area moving in the right direction so kids and others can be exposed to the great game we all love?

It shouldn't be too hard. Lacrosse is exploding in Texas but most of the teams I've seen play are more down around the Houston area but I've heard there are some decent teams from North Texas and the D/FW area. UNT, Oklahoma, and OSU all have teams. I think the trick to jump starting lacrosse in any area is just getting exposure. Once kids see it, they want to play.
I guess it's a bit of a hike but the Long Island Lizards game against the Philadelphia Barrage and the MCLA national championships are in Texas stadium next month. Get word out and organize a carpool or get word out about the games that will be on ESPN over the next few months.

Like TigerLax said, Lacrosse is exploding all over Texas. Not just in the houston area, but dallas, san antonio, and other places as weel. I would reccomend checking out www.THSLL.org. That would list pretty much every highschool team that has somekind of lacrosse program in Texas. A lot of colleges have top MCLA programs including Texas and A&M. There are also many mens club teams that are always looking for new guys because its never to late to learn.

Yeah I didn't mean to imply that it's only in Houston. Those are just the teams I've seen. One thing you might look out for is the US Lacrosse coaching clinics. I went to one in Houston a few months ago and I would imagine they will have more in other cities. It'd be good for you if you want to do some coaching. They do a nice job. I went with a guy with no lacrosse experience and he loved it.

I live in Cedar Park near Austin, TX, and their our alot of teams in the Houston/Dallas/Kileen areas, their is probably around 80 or 90 lacrosse h.s. teams in Texas. Good luck finding a team.

thanks guys for everything yall have suggested, its just that up here (amarillo area) its mostly small towns and not alot of money in the school districts, it all goes to football, basketball, and baseball..i would love to be one of the people that helps plant the lacrosse seed here in the panhandle i just wish i knew more adults that would like to see kids around here play this amazing sport.
Being from Houston and having to fight some short sighted AD's and football types that don't want to share resources or even discourage kids from playing, I understand the mindset of those in Amarillo you describe. U.S. Lacrosse does have grants for new teams to get started. I believe Wylie, a brand new team in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, received a grant that included complete equipment (helmets, sticks, pads etc) for 25 players.
The problem you might have is finding teams to play even if you could start a team on your own. Your only option might be to play Ft. Worth clubs on weekends where you could go down on a Saturday and play a few games over a weekend or something.
Also, Texas Tech in Lubbock has a pretty good MCLA team and they are only about 100-125 miles from you? Maybe you could get some ideas or support from those guys.
