I am a senior in high school who only played 2 years of box lacrosse in 7th and 8th grade. I started this year as a goalie, but we already have 2 goalies, one being incredibly spectactular. I decided to switch to d-pole to get more playing time.

I am going to college to play football. I am a big guy, 299 lbs 6'4". I can run my 40 in 5.25. I know its not the fastest, but I need some tips to play d-pole. Basic knowledge is really want I want to know. I can throw, cradle, and all those fundamentals, but I need ones specifically for defense. I got in for the first time yesterday in our game that we lost badly. I ran with the guys quite well and even got a ground ball. However, when he started to run around the cage it seemed I lost some space, so that we weren't body to body. I had him in stick length and was poking and throwing an array of other checks at him but I am weary of the space I lost runnning with him. Anyways, fundamentals and tips are what I am looking for.

Thank you.

stay low when the man is trying to drive on you. poke, slap, lift are the most essential stick checks to know. someone your size shouldnt have trouble be ing physical just be careful because you could get your team some stupid penalites. if your man is running around the net, if it doesnt seem like he is going to do anything just stay about 5 yards away from him and let him runn around in circles.
