Alright i know my problem, but i just don't how to fix it. when i have the ball my priorities are:
first look for a pass, then look for a shot
I am an attack, so i think that they should be switched, i have tried to tell myself that, but in the "heat of the moment", i go back to instinct, and dump the ball off. any ideas how to fix this dilemna?

work on dodging against a defenseman one on one and shooting with a defender on you. work on your shot. Once you know you have the ability, youll be able to do it in a game. hope this helped a little bit

I don't think there is really a priority list as an attackmen as much as there is a need to recognize when you should pull the trigger, make one more pass, or just pull out of the situation in general.
If your in a situation where your about to get a look to the cage, just tell yourself what you need to do. If you see an opportunity, just take it.
To be completely honest, it really isn't a situation that can be coached well. You can be taught to recognize situations, but when it comes down to it, you and only you make the decision to shoot or pass, you just have to break the habit.
