Chinups, Ab work, and Levering(grip).
But seriously, just get stronger in general while working on technique. You'll see good improvements.

Target the shoulders, lats, wrists, and forearms.
Focus on making quick, yet powerful, precise checks, with NO WASTED MOTION.
And make sure you can recover if and when the ball is NOT dislodged, of course...

if you have a gym you go to cut a hockey stick where the blade starts, drill a hole at the top and attach a ring of some sort, next, bring it to the gym and attach to the cable cross at the highest level, begin doing slap checks that are weighted, youll soon develop a faster and stronger check
that is, if the gym lets you of course

Good advise. I did somthing simaler but with a 6ft push broom handle and some of those work out bungy cords from walmart. Just tie one end to the broom and one end to a piller/post etc. and make like your doing a slap check. This well help build your strength as well :).

if you get this weighted stick in a d-pole it will help. but if you dont want to spend that much money just find a crap old d shaft and fill it with sand then use it in practice. it will help get you stronger and help build speed on your checks.

do they sell that as d-poles?
and as he said, just fill your shaft with sand and then go practice your checks.
also when ever you go to work out do:
5 sets of 12-15 wrist curls*
3 sets of 12 regular curls
2 sets of 12 hammer curls**
5 sets of 12 wrist extensions***
just in case you dont know what these are:

along with these you should also be working out your chest (bench press) and your back (military press/inclined bench press).
