i came into the section of the forums looking for tricks to do while using a trick stick or regular stick...you know just to have fun or impress your friends...to my disappointment i didnt find any threads listing tricks and how to do them...even though underneath the forum link it said "Do you know any of the tricks, ..."...so getting to the point...can anyone tell me some tricks and how to do them?...i would really appreciate it...

Problem with that site is that the videos are about 2 seconds long, and he does the trick before you realize it. Someone needs to make a site where you first talk about the trick, than you do it, and keep replaying it like 5 times before the tape is over. Than in slow motion. I'd do it but i cant do tricks well and i am lazy. Thank you, if anyone wants to take this idea, go for it...=P

when you just learning new tricks just mess around with it.... and like catch it on the sidewalls and stuff and then try and learn more stuff later.......and try to invint your own tricks thats what i do

jugthug is right...the site doesnt explain it at all...and the movies dont have very pictures...you cant really tell what they are doing...i want to find a site the tells you how to do the trick then shows you how to do it step by step...shows someone do it a few times...then show it in slow motion...that you be great...if someone knows a site like that or one btter then the site listed in this thread please tell me quick...thanks

there arent STEPS to doing tricks. that wouldnt make tricks special. there are famous ones that people copy by learning themselves....but not trick steps.

And hey, how about this thought...whats the best way to impress your friends with your stick?

HAVING GOOD STICK SKILLS.

instead of wasting hours learning an indian pickup, I actually learned how to cradle, pass, and catch well. Isnt that a crazy thought to consider?

wow, what happened to that anyways? using SKILLS to impress. BTW, you doing a stupid stick trick give me more time to crush you on the field.

Tip: dont double post
Yet another tip: tricks mean nothing, good stick skills are what matters

Guys don't be jealous just because you can't indian pick up or catch the ball on your side wall... :agree:

i think hours to do an indian pickup is exaggerated it barely took me 15-20 minutes to figure out how to do one

and having good stick skills may impress your friends if they play lacrosse but if they dont and they play other sports then doing fancy cradles and other stuff may just make u look like an idiot, so a few tricks cant hurt here and there.

plus, you can practice tricks in the basement, just get a tennis ball or sponge ball and practice. its a good time waster if you cant go outside and play wallball when its cold, like it is some places

but if you can just go outside and play wallball

Tricks will come the better your stick skills get. When I see brand new kids learning how to catch the ball on their sidewall they'll practice for a whole season before they can do it 50% of the time. It took me about a half hour to be able to do it 100% of the time just because my stick skills were so much better. Just keep playing and the tricks will come.

I dont see why you people are bashing stick tricks so much.

in offensive wizardry Millon mentions that doing stick tricks lots will better your stick skills because it improves hand eye coordination and gives you a better feel for your stick and how to handle it.

EXACTLY. Besides, tricks are fun, and if you like to show off, than theres a good place to do it. Being able to do tricks can get people interested in lacrosse. I'll watch a slam dunk contest and that makes me want to go shoot some hoops. Seeing some guy do something crazy with a lacrosse stick may make some people want to pick one up...

I know friends who have wasted hours doing indian pickup, while they didnt even know how to cradle yet.

and those "time wasters"....

you could be "wasting time" by practicing stuff you need to do in games. If you're out to show off to your friends who dont play lax, then do not ever step on a lacrosse field again.

there's so many kids I know who can do indian pickups, roll a ball down their sidewalls, do a backbreaker, behind the back, etc. But they can't even cradle with their weak hand. In fact, I remember one kid a few years ago on my team who spent his entire time learning tricks (bad ones too) to impress girls and try to act like he was some cool jock on the lacrosse team. That kid maybe walked onto the field twice during the season. He had great work ethic, but he spent all of that work into doing lame tricks.

And in that millon video, did you notice how Millon never actually spent any time instructing the viewer how to DO tricks? He just had a couple 2 minute segments of him doing some tricks off of goalies. And he said it's ok to do them after a long day of wallball or training. Which leads back to my point on stick skills...

Ok, you can do tricks and practice them. Only if you do them after you really work on your sticks kills and spend time in the proper areas of lacrosse.

stick tricks are meant to be fun. If you're by yourself, what are you going to do? throw the ball then go get it? then throw it again, then go get it? that's boring. Cradle? boring too. Stick tricks? challenging and fun. Try to make your own up. And they definitely do help. As far as learning stick tricks instead of skills, I definitely don't suggest that, but if you've got the skills, have some fun.

i agree...you guys need to lighten up with lax...I've been playing for god knows how long and i will testify tricks never hurt ANYONE...i can tell you right now that im no noob either...tricks are a great way to pass time, and improve the feel you have on your stick. obviously you wouldnt spin your stick during a game or throw it up and hit the ball with ur shaft, however, i think we all can agree that we want lacrosse to become bigger in the nation and if you do a stick trick in front of your non playing friends theyll think its awesome n prob want to play. idk just my opinion learning tricks is just a fun thing to do just like juggling in soccer.

I use Indian pickups a lot. If you're in a crowd, it's a whole lot easier to come out with the ball after a pickup then it is to soop it up.
Tricks are fine. There's over a foot of snow on the ground and i'm in an apartment. When we have someone to play catch with, we throw the ball around inside. When there is nobody around to play catch with, we just play around and do some tricks. It doesn't hurt anything. It's a lot better then just sitting down and watching TV. You should practice off hand and stuff like that far more then you do tricks but there are many times that I will be more focused on a trick then switching back and forth between hands. How about doing a trick, then doing it with the off hand. Nothing wrong with that. It will only help the offhand to get better.

I made a trick up. It's a wall stall, but kind of switched around.

See, my most insane trick is where I see a shot coming towards me and I like, catch it. It may not sound that great but trust me, if you see it you would be like, "Naww dude, that's riteous!"

On a more serious note: The best tricks are the ones you create yourself.

just for the reference I can do stick tricks. I have a lot of them that i make up. I mean they probably exist I just dont watch videos, I try them on my own and see what works. But stick skills are way more important.

My favorite stick trick is when I look for an open teammate, feed him the ball, and then he scores.

I call it...the assist.
