defensive middies

Hey im a midfielder and its my 1st year playing iw as wondering when you arnt on the offensive what would you do to be a defencisve player during the one on ones.
do you just constantly slap his stick? what are you trying to aim for.

Make sure he doesnt score? Use your body and get in good position. Force him into the alley (the opposite side of the middle in front of the goal) you can throw some checks but nothing to big because you do not want to get beat. On a pass or a shot, lift his bottom hand with your stick.

Protect top side, force him to take a low angle shot but do not give up body positioning and go for an all or nothing check

Not getting beat. Check his hands, use body if he tries to come in,and most importantly,don't let him get around you.

am i allowed to push him away from the goal? or stick check him as in both hands in the middle of the stick and hit him?

play d with your body as your primary and stick as the secondary


you dont always need to go for a takeaway check especially with a shorty. focus on not giving up the topside and try to force him into a low percentage shot like maki said
