Now I've played football since 5th grade and loved it, but my sophomore year I got absolutely no time went to all the practices and everything. This fall is gonna be my junior year and I have no desire to "play" football.
So my question is if I just went and played lacrosse year round would it really hurt my oppurtunity in getting in to college let alone playing lacrosse in college.

you playing football as no effect on you getting into college unless your going to play in college and because you want to quite im guessing your not good enough. so if you want to play lacrosse in college then yes i would drop football and play all year around. i love football just like you but if your not getting the playing time and you want to make lacrosse your main focus then go for it.

How could it be bad? Obviously if you are more interested in lax you should do it because you will progress better. It sounds like you have grown out of your football stage so my advice is do what you want. Playing lacrosse all year round will show colleges that you are probably better at lax then others.

get in a church besketball league or something. lax year round can burn you out, but it would suck to be stuck on a football team that you hate. do a rec sport and have fun with it.

wow, i'm sorta in the same situation. I played football all of little league but now it's no fun and I just wanna play lacrosse. But it seems wrong to quit football after all those years. So yeah, pretty much same situation.

Hey Bro,
Your story sounds almost EXACTLY the same as mine. I gave up Football AND Wrestling going into my Sophomore year opting to play in Games only Leagues with my School team year round as well as a few other leagues on my own and a Travel Team in the Summer [FuZe + NoVA West].
Altogether I really enjoyed giving up my other sports. I have grown to love Lacrosse twice as much as I used to and it made me ALOT better.
In the end I'm proud to say that I got plenty of offers to play at DII and DIII colleges and picked to play DIII Lacrosse at a University thats perfect for me. [I'm a little to small to play DI haha]

Word, my story is similar. My sophomore year, I started every game on both sides of the ball. Then the saturday before the Thanks giving game, we had a morning practice and some idiot freshman dove at my knee. I ended up getting major knee surgery because I tore my ACL, MCL, and Miniscus. Basically, since I got hurt from football I have no desire to play and basically want to quit and play lax year round. I think it's a good idea...

Just how I was, broke my wrist the past season (freshman year) and just wanna play lacrosse. It's not because I'm scared, it just seems stupid now. Really no point to football anymore.

Honestly bro if you don't want to play, don't. I know when I'm lining up on the line, 1 inch away from a game winning touchdown. I don't want to line up next to someone who doesn't want to be there, has no desire for the game, or won't give there all. Do whats more important to you.

well put, if the desire isnt there teammates will notice it, and that could make the season even less fun.
And, no two college coaches have the same view on other sports. Some think that you should commit yourself entirely to lacrosse, and others like to see three sport athletes because if they can be that good while playing two other sports, they will develop much faster at lacrosse when that is all they have to focus on in college.
Talk to coaches at schools you are interested in, and ask what they want to see

I am in your situation myself for grades reasons, along with not wanting to play anyways. (Meaning I couldnt play even if i wanted to) So I decided that as long as I lift, run, and play other sports for fun. It shouldn't really matter should I decide that I want to play lacrosse in college.

i hate to be a downer here, but a lot of high profile lax coaches like kids who play other sports. for example, a lot of the bratton bros. hype came from the fact that they also excelled in football and b-ball.
does this mean you should keep playing football? no, just do whats right for you. guys who play just lax can be recruited, but its not as easy.
yo post 1000!

go with what makes you happy, granted majority of D1 and higher level team's coaches look for the multi-sport athlete, but in reality it doesn't make that much of a difference on their decision to accept you or not because when it all comes down to it, they look for the best player on the lacrosse field, who can flat out play, not someone who can play ok but plays football even better, they'd just say why doesn't this kid try out for football instead?

It's not exactly I don't want to play but I don't want to spend 6 months out of my year commiting to something that I am not actual gonna get to excel at

It goes both ways here brosef,
I really don't want some Football junky who quite frankly cares more about Football in the game when its OT for the Championship.

I'm pretty much the same. Been playing football and am a linebacker. But recently it feels like a dumb game. Unlike lacrosse it requires more size than skill. Lacross yo can be really good and not have to be 250+ pounds. I'd go Lax. Thats just me tho'.

I played football from second grade through high school. Just because you didn't get much time as a soph doesn't mean you should quit. Work hard and see what happens in the fall. I only get special team action up until my senior year, and IT WAS WORTH IT!!! In my town football is a big deal, games sold out almost every friday night. My high school rarely send kids D-1 in football, but we are always good. I'm telling you from experience that starting as a senior is worth the wait of two years.
I started playing lacrosse in 8th grade, and played all through high school. Now I play in college, and I can tell you that playing lacrosse all year round might burn you out when you get to college. I think that playing football made me a better lacrosse player in getting stronger, faster, and more athletic. Lacrosse also made me a better football player, having to think on my feet, learning more team concepts and being a better athlete.
If your school is anything like mine then seeing time as a soph on any team is rare. I would suggest that you stay with football until the fall, and if it truly isn't for you then concentrate on lacrosse.

Let me play Devil's advocate...
If you have a strong desire to play lax in college, keep playing football. Coaches want two sport athletes because they have different strengths from different sports. You are also less likely to burn out when you get to college lax.
In college you will be playing all year, and while it may be great, many players at the end of their four years are ready to move on. If you add two more straight years of lax, you might not mentally make it to the end.
If you decide to keep playing football, look for the positives. Are you friends on that team? Do you want to use cross training to get you better for lacrosse? Are you going to do anything else with your time?
It's one thing to say that you will practice all the time, but you don't know what you will actually do.
If you decide to quit football, make sure you have a league or another varsity sport to join. After being used to having structured practices and school years, you will probably still want that.
