I strung my first stick a few days ago on thursday. I just wanted some input on if it's ok or not and if I need to fix anything. I haven't played with it at all, but I've had a ball and a knife in it since thursday. BTW the bottom string may look like it is strung through twice, but it's actually strung through at the higher point. Where it looks strung through at the bottom i just weaved the extra string thru because I didn't want to cut it yet.

Not bad, check out my webshots for some fun pictures. Just click on the handsome boys image.
I also recommend Warrior42's webshots for some double sidewall goodness.

No don't move the V up one row. It looks real good for a first time.
Make sure you burn the strings good so they don't fray.

Thanks for the comments. Maybe for my next one I'll string double sidewall. I looked at the pics, but I don't really see how to do it. About the v though I noticed after I strung it that I sort of skipped a diamond and went straight to the side. When it gets to the walls it just goes straight out. Should I fix that or is it ok?
I actually just moved to GA this summer. Not sure what part of GA your from, but I'm playing for Riverwood HS in Atlanta. I moved here from NJ (but im really from iowa) and I had never really heard of lax at all in NJ, even though it's big up there. This is my first year playing and I've never even played a game, but i'm already stringing.

Lax is definitely big in NJ. Especially in Northern NJ, too bad I'm Central.

Should I redo the top string? I have some extra top strings so I can if I need to. Would I have to undo everything or just the top string? If it's not a big deal I would rather just leave it.
warrior42- I lived in central NJ too. I lived in marlboro, nj for 3 years. I went to marlboro middle school and we didn;t have any lax there. My siblings went to MHS and I never heard anything about lax there. I just looked on their site to see if they have a team and i saw something about a girls meeting so i assume they have guys. While I was there though I never heard anything about lax there, didn't even know they had a team.

Looks pretty good, keep trying and it'll get better. the majority of people here are stringers, i personally suggest asking any questions to Kryptic, GCHS, or myself. The top string is fine, there are different ways of stringing it, but yours looks fine.
Maybe one of these days you'll have the guts enough to try traditional  heh, don't worry about that just yet. Keep stringing mesh and you'll get better. You should at least try a traditional pocket at one point in your life or another. Give it a chance, i did and i love traditional now.

That look's great for a first time stringer, You might want to try to losen up the sidewalls a little and make the pocket higher up but it looks great.

Nice job thats rilly good for the first time. if its brand new id put a base ball in it , not a lax ball 'cuz your pocket could shrink a bit and you can always pull at the strings a bit if it does get to deep.
not bad. heres a pic of the first on i ever strung.

ARE YOU SERIOUS! I did the same thing too! Wow small world.
My first and only so far was a nasty custom/mistake/traditional creature with incredible hold and way too much whip. I wish i had my digital camera then. You guys would have torn it apart. Wish i could string that nice right now. Good job

On the sidewalls, most people weave under the mesh hole instead of over, but it doesn't really make a difference. Also, this was mentioned before, but Orange's tutorial for GIANT mesh pockets will show you another way to do the top string to get it tighter and stay better, but yours is fine. Good 1st string job.

yeah for the pocket you strung
make sure to beat in the pocket from where the ball was left up to the top of the v
you might want to just put another ball in there using the ball knife trick.. one where you had it.. and one right above it
leave it like that for a little bit and the pocket will be even
cuz the way you have it it probably wont have a lot of hold and probably throws weird. bagging out the pocket a tad wouldnt hurt

Yeah good first try.
But my recommendations for next time-
Find a shooting setup that works well for you, and learn how to manipulate it. For example, I like 3 horizontal shooters, so I take away the whip by tightening them 50% or so tighter each one I go up. Also, cut your shooting strings and burn the ends so they don't whip your face when you cradle.
Also, the top looks fine for now, but next time look how to do the double-looped top knots for your top string. If you noctice, you took the easy way out and only did a single loop for each top knot. There are some good tutorials on here to teach you what I'm talking about more if you search.
And lastly, stretch your mesh well, get it wet, fold it up, but get it soft before you string. I remember my first job a couple years ago, and I strung the mesh in flat so it looked like a women's stick. What I've found is a good stringer can string a stick so you don't need a pocket pounder or stretcher. It will also give you a great pocket right after you're done stringing, no tests are needed besides if the shooting strings need to be fixed.
Hope that helps for next time.

Where did you get the sidewall string?

I used to do this a LONG time ago in HS. I went and bought climbing rope string for my sidewalls and shooting strings. Just go to you local outdoors store and they should sell them by the foot. That's what the sidewall strings reminds me of. They're a lot softer than the typical sidewall strings that come in kits. I tended to like them better as it gave me a better pocket when I strung them w/ leathers. Thing is that you will need to make sure you run the string arcross the candle as they do tend to fray if you don't singe the string a little.

first string job, well done. looks great, all i can say, for my taste the pocket looks a little low, but its different for everybody. besides that, its all personal preference, so go throw with the stick, make sure it throws well. if the ball drops straight down when you throw, loosen the V string. looks like its a good stringing, just make sure it throws, thats all you need to check out. good job.
