I play attack for my school, I am the leader in points. But i have played attack for around 7 years. And i am pretty good at the position. But, i think i want to play middie. I have a good outside shot, shot on the run, and time and room shot. But i can also drive, i have good stick skills, and have a lot of experience on attack.
I want to make the transition from attack to midfield, but i don't know if i should risk the experience i might lose by not playing on attack. (because i might actually be able to get somewhere on attack). And i don't even know if my coach would let me.
Please help me decide if i should continue to do what i am skilled and experienced at (attack), or if i should go with what I think i would love playing (middie). And if you have any info or hints on how i could make that transition easier, and if it would be a difficult task to pull off, please tell me.
Thanks.

Try midd one day if you're up by alot, cause if you're horrible, you can just get pulled off and put back in on attack haha. Once you played it for a little make your descision, its all up to you.

If you can't play defense well, DO NOT play middie. As a goalie, I despise midfielders that work their asses off on offense and dog it on my end of the field.

I can ride well, if that is related to what middie defense is like, i don't know??
haha, i know what you mean though, i would be sooo mad if they didn't play good defense when your the one who has to stop the balls with your body half the time.

Honestly, I've never ridden (sp?) but I'd assume that it can't be too, too different. You could most likely pick defense up pretty quickly, you'd just have to work on positioning. It seems like most shortpoles, especially attackmen, love to go for the huge wraparound takeaway check, but that's the one thing I hate most. If you rely on your feet/body instead of on your stick as your defense mechanism, I'm sure your goalie and coach will thank you.

attackman riding is nothing like playing real defense. On defense you need to focus on position. When attackmen ride, all they do is try to strip the ball.

if you have a good relationship with your coach, just go ahead and ask him if you can play some middie maybe in practice or in games you've basically won. I pretty much switch from attack and midfield, wherever my coach wants me at that time, and playing offense against a longpole on attack has helped me play even better against shortpoles. I say as long as you can move your feet and know how to slide and play decent defense, you should be alright. And also, conditioning is something you might want to work on if your used to just sitting back on D. I think in terms of the future, having the experience at middie will only help you since you already have 7 yrs under your belt at attack. One season won't be much lost compared to whats gained as a middie.

You're right, it would help me in so many aspects of the game, that I can't get on attack. So if anything, it will help me.

as middieman said, talk to your coach. but riding is nothing like playing actual defense. you need to do more then just strip a ball. you need to understand angles and where to slide on defense. it will take you a little to get used to it all. if you keep at it and get friends or your coach to help you out, youll pick it up pretty quickly.

Last year we had a this kid who played attack all his life and was pretty good at it. By the end of the year he had about 10 goals. His sophomore year he moved to middie and now has around 25 goals and 30 assists. It's really up to you, just give it your best shot.

Well if you are planning to play in college middie would be the better choice. It is because not that many attack are on the team or played. At middie they need good 2-4 lines to keep up the tempo and that is a good spot that offers some decent playing time. Middie will help you really get the Defense aspect of the game down.
You also can try face-offs and middie that would ease the switch a little, beacuse your coach might play you as a FOGO to start and ease you in as the season gets midway
just putting in my 2 cents

well that stinks for you. I think you should play attack. If it is what you love then do it.
